Default Looking for old hockey pool draft lists

    Hey,

I am looking for old hockey pool guides, draft lists, cheat sheets, etc.
I am missing some of the popular ones but in general the older the better. The more obscure the better.

All I need are the prediction lists (Top x players). Any digital format (jpeg, bmp, png, pdf, xls...) is fine with me.

If you have any old guides and want to help me out send me a pm.

    Regards,

    peeknpoke

I know I have at least one old hockey guide book at home but I cant remember how old it is. I can see if i can find it and take some pictures of the draft list cheat sheet and send them to you. I know I shared them on these forums a while back but god knows what thread that was in LOL!

It appears I lied to you over PM. I found a version of the Ultimate Pool Preview from 2013.

Do you have a list of what you do have, sorted by year or something?

That would do!! I don't have any Ultimate Pool Preview's.

And I do have a list of what I am looking for. This is not a complete list.

All the Right Stats Almanac - any (I think they might have been around from 1992 to 2000)
All in Fantasy Hockey Guide - any - around 2016?
Draft Day Digest - any (probably mid 90's only)
Fantasy Hockey Coach Pool Playbook - any (from 2009 to 2013 I think)
    Fantasy Hockey Guide Book - any - (1998 to 2001 I think)
Game Plan Pro Hockey Annual - any - 1987 to mid 90's but might not have top X list or any player predictions
    Hockey Annual - any - mid 90s
    Hockey Pool Fever - any - 1987 to 2003
Hockey Pool Guide Book - (I think it is related to Fantasy Hockey Guide Book) - any - 1983? to 2002?
    Hockey Pool Prophet - any - 1993 to 2004
    Hockey the/le Magazine Pooler's Guide - any between 2006 and 2015
Left Wing Lock - any before 2015
    McKeens - any before 2006
Pool Pro (aka Hockey Pool Pro) - french - any (between 2009 to present)
    Pro Hockey - any - 1996 to 2000
Pro Hockey Preview - any 1996? to ????
School Your Pool - any - around 2008 or 2009?
    STATS Inc - any - 1996 to ????
Superstar Hockey Yearbook - any 1985 to 1994
Sportsnet NHL Pool Guide - any - 2011 to 2015?
    Sports Forecasters - 1995/96, 1996/97, 1998/99, 2000/01, 2001/02, 2009/10, 2013/14 and 2014/15
The Hockey News yearbook - anything prior to 1991 but I don't know if they had player projections before that time.
Ultimate Pool Preview - any I think they started in the early 2000s but not sure
    Ultimate Sports Hockey - any - 1996 to 2000?
    WayMoreSports.com Fantasy Draft kit any - 2003 to ????

There are others but this is a lot.

Whatever people have stashed away in their basements, attics...
And if there is something that you think is really unique, like one of those lists from an add in the back of The Hockey News, let me know.

I couldn't find the magazine, but I know I've still got it somewhere. None the less, I did find a couple pics I took for the forums a while back.

I apologize for the pen marks through the names but back in the day, this is how we did our drafts before doing them online.

This is great! Exactly the kind of thing I would expect.
Pen marks are not a problem. I've got them all over my magazines as well.

    THANK YOU!

Just as a heads up, I believe the first Sportsnet Pool Guide didn't have any projections. The second year, they went for a range. So a player like Sidney Crosby could be expected to get somewhere between 75-125 points. Not sure if they did a third year.

I might have some old ones kicking around, but not sure if they fit in the timeline for the ones you are looking for. How recent is too recent?

    Hi newfcollins,

Range predictions are not an issue. If the guide has a Top X list (Top 100, 200, etc) then I am interested. I don't have any sportsnet's so any year would be good. I think they stopped in 2015 but not really sure.

peeknpoke, sent you a PM. I've got some older hockey pool magazines, a couple dating as far back as 1988/89 and 1990/91.

    It may not be helpful.
But... when I was a kid (1985-...) my friends used to use their parents to enter in the local newspapers hockey pools.
    Ours was the Windsor Star.

They were box pools where you pick the player (of 4 or 5 options) that you thought would score the most points.
I'm pretty sure the Windsor Star was one of a multitude of newspapers owned by some parent organization.
So that box pool was probably run in several newspapers across Canada.

Anyways - one surely could quick scan past Sports sections of newspapers from late-September (hockey starting, typically - October) and find those box pools.
IIRC, they would have been organized into player groups likely to score similar points.

    Fun project! Good luck!

    Hi Pengwin7,

I know what you are talking about. "Hockey Star" or something like it. There was also another one from Saskatchewan. But they aren't the kind of lists I'm looking for.

Something like Eric Duhatschek (Atlantic/Globe and Mail/Calgary Herald) is something that I have found. I've got most of his Top 200 lists.
Missing 2007-08 (don't think there was one published), 2012-13 (I think he tried something different), 2015-16 and 2016-17 (might have behind a pay wall), and 2017-18 he was switching from the G&M to the Atlantic so I don't believe anything was printed.
His earliest one that I was able to find was from 1994.

I thought that there were other lists that were published in the Toronto local papers but haven't been able to find them. It may have been something under the waymoresports.com banner.

Still your idea is good and I'll keep searching the newspapers.
