Parayko already offers a lot in your format and if anyone would take a step forward and become a star D, it's him.
hey, I'm looking at Pietrangelo possibly leaving and I'm enquiring about who benefits the most if he does leave?
Dunn, Parayko, Faulk, Pernovich?? someone else?
Categories for Dmen include Goals, assists, games played, +/-, blocks, gwg, hits, TOI sh.
I'm looking at acquiring a Blues dman. And I'm pretty sure someone from the league lurks on these boards.
Thanks

Everyone? Is everyone an answer?
Hard to say exactly who steps up and takes the reins and runs with it. Not sure I'd spend too much capital on any of them right now, but if I had to, I'd probably go with Perunovich. He'll probably cost you the least, and has arguably the most upside. Are you competing, or rebuilding?

Off the hop, I'd say Dunn takes a nice step in the right direction but eventually, it could be "any of the above".

I suspect if Pietrangelo goes, St. Louis replaces him with someone via trade or free agency. That's my guess.
That said, Parayko is a minute-munching monster who can be the team's center-piece on defense, and Dunn can be serviceable on the power play. I still think they need another dman, though, and I can't see them going into next season with what they've got (assuming Pietrangelo leaves).

very possible.
I feel the market is a bit flooded right now with dmen. I mean, none of them are of Pietrangelo's caliber, but St. Louis is probably weighing the cost of signing Pietrangelo for a cap hit of $8.5 million (or whatever he wants) vs signing someone like Krug, Barrie, or even Brodie for considerably less, or going out and acquiring via trade someone like Dumba, Ekman-Larsson, etc.

if they dont replace him i think everyone benefits in some way. Perunovich wont get APs role but he will make the team most likely, and everybody shifts up. I think Faulk may start running PP.
Having said that i agree with last few posts that he will be replaced...form the 3 teams that are loosing PP1 QB only Toronto has internal replacement. Other 2 are bringing in help imo. And yes, i dont think Mcavoy is the answer in Boston.

I can't see them going after Krug at the price he'll get.
considering the money they gave Faulk they would give him a chance, if he fails I'd say Dunn
Even at the time, I thought that Faulk deal was one of the worse trades in years. Now that St. Louis is possibly losing Pietrangelo, the Faulk deal looks even worse.
EDIT: Not specifically the trade package...I mostly mean the trade and sign together. They acquired Faulk and immediately signed him to a 7 year deal that at the time I thought was insane, and that contract looks even worse now.

re: Faulk.
GMs know when they have a shot at retaining a player.
As soon as STL brought in Faulk (and re-upped him!!!)... I thought it was a good indicator that AP wasn't coming back.
That could mean many things:
i) The GM wants to go forward without AP
ii) AP wanted a change of scenery
iii) AP-GM were far apart on a future contract number.
What's done is done. AP is good as gone... we should have all (IMO) figured that when they re-upped Faulk.
Same things with Josh Morrissey this year.
Did anybody note that Morrissey got a big-ass extension a day or two before the Jets announced Buff wasn't coming back?
These are "tells".
If you smell fish, something is fishy.
The Faulk contract was fishy.
re: STL Opp.
It could be anybody.
Personally, I think Perunovich is the future PP1 guy.
But not this year, they'll try either Faulk or Dunn - who are both better puck movers.
Parayko is soli, but he doesn't walk pucks through the neutral zone or pass better than Faulk/Dunn.
He works well on a two-man PP, but I can't see him manning a 4F:1D.
I give Dunn (LH) the leg-up. I think he will have led STL in PPTOI come end of 20-21.
I think he can run a 4F:1D PP1 unit... or he can play opposite Parayko (RH) on a 3F:2D unit.
Dunn and done!
end of the year I'd bet on Dunn as PP1.
Faulk - similar to Carolina will get the first crack at PP1 - follow the $$
but Dunn will earn it - when the opp. arises.
I agree with P7 - it'll be Perunovich's job in a couple years.

As the highest paid defender, and the guy they just brought in, Faulk gets the first shot and likely fails. I think he's a #2 D, being paid as a the top guy, but I could be wrong, he might be a second-pair guy.
That means it's a battle between Dunn & Parayko for that PP1 spot.
I don't see them birnging anyone else in, as Faulk was their add.
