The title says it all. The question is why? Minnesota needs a 2nd line center so they trade away their first line center to get a winger that is more expensive.

Interesting. I'm not really sure what the motivation is but I assume this has something to do with moving around money? Looking forward to the Dobber breakdown.

What gets me is that Staal had a modified NTC where he would list 10 teams he wouldn't accept a trade to and Buffalo wasn't on it.

    My thoughts exactly.

WTF is Bill Guerin up to? Maybe a legit deal popped up where he can swap RHD Dumba for a good young C

No doubt, would've guessed Buffalo, Ottawa, and Winnipeg were the 3 shoo-ins on the NTC list.

Staal will be gone after 1 season and there was always a decent bet neither Mittelstadt or Cozens would play at all in the NHL in 2020/21.

All the moves Guerin has done lately are pointing to this.

    Koivu retires...

    Bjugstad acquired...

    Brodin locked up...

    Staal dealt...

I have to believe a #1 center is coming to Minny and that Dumba will be the major piece going the other way. Bjugstad will be the #2 center.

Question is...which team has an extra center? And why would they deal one for Dumba, even with a decent prospect and/or draft pick included?

I honestly cannot think of a single center that makes sense. Anyone have any ideas?

I can see Winnipeg wanting someone like Dumba...but they don't have any centers.

Montreal probably wants Dumba, but is Domi really a number 1 center?

Edmonton could probably use Dumba, but would RNH make sense? Perhaps. However, I keep hearing about OEL and Kuemper going to Edmonton for Nurse, Puljujarvi, etc.

Cirelli? I believe he has the potential but Tampa can't afford Dumba.

I just read a Russo tweet that said Guerin is pretty high on Rask and wants to get him more playing time. After reading that, I think Rask is the #2 center on next year's opening day roster for Minnesota, with Bjugstad as the #3.

That doesn't change the Wild's need for a #1 center, but earlier I said perhaps Bjugstad was the #2 center. With Koivu and now Staal gone, I was wondering who the #2 center would be, and I forgot about Rask.

I'm starting to think maybe a deal involving Winnipeg makes some sense...Roslovic and a 1st for Dumba?

Obviously Dumba makes a lot of sense for Winnipeg. Roslovic is a center. Not sure if he is a 1st line center, but maybe with Rask, Roslovic, and Bjugstad, the Wild can cobble together a few decent lines with average strength down the middle. I admit not knowing a lot about Roslovic, other than he seems like an under-utilized player in Winnipeg who maybe can do more with more opportunity. He's a big body and can certainly handle the puck. Not sure about face-offs, but Rask is a very good face-off player, so maybe it will be more of a 1A/1B situation with Rask taking a lot of the key face-offs in the defensive zone.
