I think Boston only takes a slight step back if they downgrade to McAvoy-Grzelcyk running that PP.

But the $7m that Krug can/will demand, IMO, is better spent on a 2nd line forward to give the Bs more scoring punch.
I think we'll see them make a major play for Taylor Hall... and possibly fall back to Mikael Granlund if they can't get Hall.

Bs have one of the better 1-3year out cap structures in the NHL with the numbers they have on Bergeron/Marchand/Pastrnak/McAvoy.
And with Bergeron's age, they can still compete hard for a cup... with a team that adds Taylor Hall.... instead of re-signing Krug.

So I think Krug is left to walk (i.e. "sign elsewhere").
Then the Bs take that money and use it on a 1st/2nd line forward.
And then McAvoy steps up into big scoring & huge minutes - both of which he can handle.

So... I'd go after him before Krug leaves and it becomes obvious.
i just dont see that kind of production form MaCavoy but who knows...i think if Krug leaves they will try to get Barrie for less due to his poor last season ...MaCavoy had 2PPP last year...with 1:21 TOI on PP...thats 90 plus minutese on PP with 2 points. Yes i know it was mostly on second PP unit that is not the strongest but still, he does not produce much with PP...Last year Krug was hurt for 13 games, with similar overall TOI on PP Mcavoy had also 2 PPP.

he is still young and maybe will develop into absolute stud you talking about but i just dont see it.

Going back to OP, i like Chychrun most of this group

What happened to your HUGE endorsement for Grz running that PP1 powerplay if/when Krug leaves? Changed your stance on that? McAvoy's spot to lose now in your opinion?

The reason Grzelcyk ran PP1 while Krug was out was because they both shoot left. If Krug leaves in free agency, the Bruins will have the entire training camp/pre-season to re-jig their PP with the right handed McAvoy at the point. McAvoy will be the guy if Krug leaves.

McAvoy is my #1 of all the guys listed in the OP.

You'll have to show me in what thread I made a "HUGE" endorsement.
McAvoy/Grzelcyk will run the two PP units.

    McAvoy, IMO - is a tremendous all-around D-man.
But (as chuck mentions), Grz was a better quick replacement when Krug was out.

You DO realize that they will BOTH bump up in points/value if Krug leaves, yes?

if Bruins loos Krug and not bring in another offensive D they may as well start the rebuild now...neither of these guys is the answer.

i can see Barrie there on one year deal with similar AAV that Krug is getting now.

McAvoy didn't even get PP1 when Krug was hurt - Grzelyck had that honour. He could be a decent sleeper if Krug walks. I still think he signs though.

Chychrun is very intriguing even if OEL doesn't get dealt. My favourite on the OP list

McAvoy shoots opposite of Krug. If Krug gets injured it's simpler to plug another left-hand shot into his place rather than change how you've set up your power-play units function. No guarantee McAvoy gets PP1 but if he's the best option around they can start from scratch, so to speak, with the new season

If Krug leaves, I'd rather have Grizz-lick than McAvoy in a cap league.
