Default Drafting 8th in 0.5 PPR

Main league draft tomorrow night and I'm picking 8th.
    0.5 PPR
    10 team

Who should I target with my first 2 picks??

As long as Thomas doesn't drop to me, I think my current plan is to start with 2 RBs. That would give me something like CEH/Cook/Henry and then Mixon/Chubb/Ekeler/Jacobs. Then I can come back with WRs in the mid rounds. I know RB is a crap shoot but getting those studs is key. And I think by the time it's my round 3 pick the RBs will be much much worse than the drop off between taking Julio or Hill with my 2nd pick, or getting Golladay/Kupp/Woods/Ridley as my WR 1.

CEH/Cook/Henry - I am considering Cook and Henry at 4th overall, albeit a Standard league.... but I think if Cook is available here I would go Cook, CEH, Henry here.

Then on the way back I would rank the RBs:

    CEH
    Henry
    Mixon
    Drake
    Jacobs
    Ekeler
    Chubb

And yes at your spot I would only Consider Michael Thomas and maybe if my arm was twisted Davante Adams. WR is soo deep in round 3-6 and RB is not.

Yep it really is. Just have to hope I pick 2 RB that don't end up with busted knees by week 3 lol.

Well, I clearly spent way too much time adding way more detail then you asked for, but I kind of went down the rabbit whole trying to state that it's important to fill out the RB slot a little earlier this year as opposed to previous years. I wouldn't want to miss out on 2 of the clear starters. Anyhow, hopefully it's a worthwhile read.

1-8 - I would rank my top 9 as such. If you can get 1 of them at 8, that's great. Top 7 RBs first, Thomas only after that. I don't love Cook due to the injury concerns, so I would take Thomas over him. I don't like taking on that kind of risk with early picks.

    Group 1 RB
    CMC
    Barkley
    Elliott
    Kamara
    Henry
    CEH
    Jacobs

    Group 1 WR

    Thomas

    Injury Concern RB

    Cook

2-13 - If any of the above are still available, take them. If not, I'm reaching into my next batch of RBs.

    Group 2 RB
    Sanders
    Drake
    Chubb
    Jones
    Conner
    Carson

3-28 - If you managed 2RB above, then I might consider one of the WR ahead of the group 2 RBs
If you went RB/WR above, then I'm taking one of the group 2 RBs
    4-33 - If available, I would take L. Jackson or P. Mahomes
If they aren't available, I'm taking the opposite of what I took in 3-28 (either group 2 or 3 RB or group 2 or 3 WR based on the lists)

    Group 1 QB
    L. Jackson
    P. Mahomes

    Group 2 WR
    Adams
    Hill
    Hopkins
    Godwin
    Robinson

    Group 3 RB
    Johnson
    Ingram
    Mostert
    Akers

    5-48 - Hopefully you're sitting at 3RB/WR, 2RB/2WR or 2RB/WR/QB.
If you have 3RB I am looking to take a group 2 or 3 WR.
If you have 2RB I am looking to take a group 3 RB, otherwise I'm waiting until the later rounds to draft a high upside backup as they just aren't worth it anymore.
6-53 - If you missed out on group 1 QB I'm looking to take a group 2 QB
If you have a QB then I'm taking a group 2 or 3 WR.

I kept listing the Group 3/4 WRs to show that there are so many solid WR options left after round 6 that you can nab in rounds 7 and 8 that you would be somewhat happy with, but all of the RB options after round 6 are more sketchy with unclear roles and/or timeshares. Gordon, Taylor, Montgomery, Hunt, Fournette, they just all have murky situations at this time which is why it's important to fill the RB slot earlier this year. At this point it's more worth it to target the WR groups that you know will play and get targets. Target the later round upside RBs later on to add to your bench. Fill in a TE somewhere when value presents itself, but preferably after round 6. I would hate to miss out on the Group 1&2 QBs as I think it's a big drop off, but if you do, wait even longer for a guy like Jones or Minshew. A lot more risk but a lot more upside with a late pick.

    Group 3/4 WR
    Golladay
    Smith-Schuster
    AJ Brown
    DJ Chark
    Robert Woods
Keenan Allen (always hurt - I pass on him)
    Calvin Ridley
Cooper Kupp (some injury concern - likely pass)
    Amari Cooper
    Tyler Lockett
    Tyler Boyd
    Terry McLaurin
    DeVante Parker
    DK Metcalf

    Group 2 QB
    Dak Prescott
    Deshaun Watson
    Kyler Murray
    Russel Wilson

    Group 3/4 WR Continued
    Michael Gallup
    Marquise Brown
    Preston Williams
    Anthony Miller
    Sterling Shepard
    Henry Ruggs III
    Jamison Crowder
    Will Fuller
    Brandin Cooks
    Christina Kirk
    Mike Williams

The fact that today the Browns signed Kareem Hunt to a 2 year 6.5mm deal should be a sign that Chubb is not going to receive the lion's share of Cleveland's backfield production.

I don't see much difference between the RBs available after 1.7 to about 2.6 so I'd snag Michael Thomas if he's there at 8 as he is substantially better than the next WR. Deal with the RB hole later. After about pick 2.6, you're looking at a dead zone where any RB you take is going to be a negative-value pick. The Montgomerys, David Johnsons, Mark Ingrams, etc. are all less than ideal. If it were me, my ideal start would be (presuming, no Michael Thomas)

    RB
    WR
TE (if Kelce or Kittle is there) or Mahomes or WR
    WR
Cam Akers or WR(if you had a flex spot for WR. If not, then TE if you didn't take one earlier)

and then pound every RB in a situation where if the current starting RB gets hurt or demoted, you'd essentially have a 1st or 2nd round talent. Kareem Hunt, Chase Edmonds, Tony Pollard, Alexander Mattison, Darrel Williams, etc.

Adams is fully in the WR1 tier with Thomas. He's not #1 but he's a damn sure fire PPR pick.

That being said, there are two things going for you here. 1) it's only a 10 team league 2) you're at the back half of the draft so you get a quick turn.

While Thomas and Adams are the top tier, in a 10 teamer I would pivot from them and go RB-RB.

So I would target CEH-Henry-Cook with pick 1 and then Mixon-Drake-Sanders/Chubb with pick 2. Those would be the order of the groups I want them. If Adams falls to this spot though, you should snatch him up.

I don't think Kittle or Kelce will drop to round 3 but if either does I would go them.

Yep I love grabbing them there but am also intrigued by Lamar or Mahomes in round 4, which means I don't want to wait to round 5 for a WR. But we shall see.

Wow ya Zeke at 5 is crazy. But ya if mine were a full PPR that would completely change my pick.

I've seen some who value Kamara a tad more than Zeke, but I dont know of anyone who values Derick Henry more than Zeke. That one is a head scratcher for me. Hell, I know some who had Zeke at 2 in a 0.5 PPR but the top three were pretty much CMC, Barkley and then Zeke.

I can see Zeke at 2 because Dallas should have an elite offense. No Garrett. Breakout for Gallup or Lamb. But since it's Dallas, this probably means they'll finish 8-8.

1 yr casual league might just be a decision based on fandom.

I know people who don't draft guys based on fandom unless a guy like Zeke falls far (like back half of round 1).
