NHL draft dates getting moved up?

Just saw this tweet from Pronman about the NHL draft dates:

Believe the 2020 NHL Draft will be moved up to October 6 and 7, from the original tentative dates of October 9 and 10.

They must have made up a couple days in the schedule from the Round 1 not having any Game 7.

3 days further away from Canadian Thanksgiving weekend and whatever Americans do that weekend. Columbus day? That sounds right.

Beginning of free agency (Oct. 9) fell on the same day as Day 1 of the draft, so one or the other had to be moved. As
@coreypronman said, Oct. 6 and 7 it is. Evening of the 6th, during the day on the 7th. Free agency on the 9th.

WHL (fantasy league) is itching to reinvigorate itself with a junior draft.

We're tentatively slated to start that Oct.10th... a few extra days to digest the actual NHL entry draft would be good by me!!!

The date was always October 6th and 7th, with Free Agency set for October 9. That's been the date they were working towards from the start.

Weird because the dates I had always saw for the draft was a tentative date of the 9th and 10th. I am not doubting you, but I had never seen the 6th and 7th as hard dates until today.

When the NHL revised schedule came out (~a month before playoffs) I remember seeing them as 6th, 7th (which is during week). [By internet, some July 8th publications show this]
Not long after that... the dates were shifted to 9th/10th (weekend)...
...and now they are shifting back.

Probably has something to do with scheduling.
I'd bet somebody says "You promised us it was a go for 6th/7th"... and then they had to come back.

Likely they aren't doing a Venue - so weekend booking isn't critical.

Ah! So I caught the original dates, and then was probably out camping when they changed them - I had camped twice during August for a few days each

Also, tentative date for 2020 #NHLDraft is Oct. 6. It must follow the end of the Stanley Cup Final and precede the free agent signing period.

• The 2020 NHL Draft will be held virtually over two days. Round 1 will take place at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Rounds 2-7 will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

I wonder if the "virtual" nature of this one will make it boring. If the GMs can't walk around and talk to each other the trades might be few and far between? Sucks for Montreal not to get to host.

Or maybe easier for everyone to keep track of things as they have all of their guys, discussions, calls, etc in one central (online?) hub. Could mean there's less confusion and more ability to fully discuss options.
