It's hard to look at Minnesota's cap situation and feel good about this team being competitive in the next few years given that they have $15M tied up in Parise and Suter until 2025. That being said I think they'll have to try to get some performance out of Zucc and his $6M contract. It's pretty bad that 1/4 of the team's cap space is tied up with these 3 aging players. I wouldn't take his 4th line minutes to seriously right now given he's probably just getting acclimated. I'd be surprised if he doesn't have a 2nd line spot in his future with PP1 time. I'd bet he'll bump Greenway down shortly.

Thus, I agree that Zucc should have plenty of opportunity to showcase his skills -- and I think if he can stay healthy, he has value.

Nick Bonino is also set to return later this week, so another player will be bumped too.

If the acquisition cost was not high I’d take a flyer and see. Dude can play hockey. He could stream well on a hot streak. Not worth a keeper investment though.

Ya for sure - this may be a one-year thread [now]

I have a 16 teamer, and he's dangling on the wire with Schmaltz. I think I'll take a flyer on one of them...though Schmaltz plays some nice off-nights. Would be great to see him and Kap go off.

Great points above about Minny having so much tied up in Parise and Suter. People learn from their mistakes...I just hope Fletch doesn't sewer cap space like that in Philly.

I don't know where you're getting your math done, but I do know your math is wrong. Zuccarello certainly has not averaged 68 P per 82 G the last four seasons. He's averaged 68 P per 82 G one time in his entire career and it was in 2018-2019 in 48 games.

    2013-2014 - 59 P in 77 G, 63 P per 82 G
    2014-2015 - 49 P in 78 G, 52 P per 82 G
    2015-2016 - 61 P in 81 G, 62 P per 82 G
    2016-2017 - 59 P in 80 G, 60 P per 82 G
    2017-2018 - 53 P in 80 G, 54 P per 82 G
    2018-2019 - 40 P in 48 G, 68 P per 82 G
    2019-2020 - 37 P in 65 G, 47 P per 82 G

If you take out the first 3 years of his career where he wasn't a regular, Zuccarello has produced 58 P per 82 G, although he will never play 82 G.

Over the last four years, Zuccarello has averaged 57 P per 82 G.

So his floor is not a "safe" 60 points, his average is not 68 points, and his upside is not 70 points.

His floor is 40 points, he's likely to score at about a 50 point pace, and his upside is 60 points.

Of course, if we consider his age, his performance on a new team last year, and the likely decline in skill due to consistent injury, his floor is almost certainly lower than 40, he's likely to score at closer to a 40 point pace, and his upside is probably 50-55 rather than 60. As for minutes? I don't see any reason he would bump Parise or Fiala of L1, and to me it makes more sense to play a 24 YO second line minutes over a 33 YO, if they are approximately the same skill level. I would say L3 PP2 is his max end usage this season. At $6M, he's very unlikely to be useful in cap leagues, in non-cap leagues it would depend on the size of your roster.

7 points in 4 games for Zucc

    From Russo....

[Russo] Foligno said the reason why Kaprizov-Rask-Zuccarello line is churning is because Zuccarello, a Norwegian, speaks Swedish and Russian. He's actually not kidding. I knew he spoke Swedish, but apparently a little Russian, too

Holy cow. This production is next level. Good for a short-term boost for those who have him in the lineup.

    Call a spade a spade.
Zucc is a 40-50pt player, if he can play 80gp.
haha. This didn't age well. (Not picking on you Pengwin--even the great ones miss from time to time!)

Make that 9 pts in the last 5 games now. Happy I saw this thread and snagged him off waivers. I'll ride this streak as long as I can.
