The very small window they had is likely close unless something big happens this offseason. Not even sure if we can call that a window since they were horrible last year.

Petry, Tatar, Gallagher, Danault and Armia are all UFA after next season. Moving picks and prospects right now doesn't make sense long term. They should pull the plug and get the most quality youth they can for the UFAs and Weber/Price.

At least get something for some UFA and not sign Gallagher for too much and too long. But that's wishful thinking.

Yeah - Price and Weber are both pretty much un-tradeable. They need to get better and stay younger for now. Bergevin is going to make a run at getting some scoring help whether it be Hall or Gaurdreau or Laine or whoever. If the playoffs look unlikely as next season goes on they can be sellers at the deadline. Many of those pending UFAs would fetch decent returns from contenders.

To answer to the title, I like Gaudreau but would prefer Hall with the Habs. There is enough small players in Montreal. I have nothing against small players, but someday you need to get bigger...

Do not want to see Gaudreau in Montreal. The positives don't outweigh the negatives for me. I get very strong 'parties too much' vibes from him. If Domi's a spare part for Montreal I don't see how adding Johnny makes them better. The build is going well - please don't do the typical Habs thing and go all in too early

To be fair, Montreal had one player on their roster this year score more than 47 points. One. Gaudreau in a down year this year had 58. That's why adding Gaudreau makes them better.

He adds an element to the Habs they have lacked for years - offense.
