Default NBA Teams Boycott / NBA Postpones games

Will be very interesting to see how this all plays out, and if other major sports leagues follow suit.

The Bucks players made this decision in the wake of the Jacob Blake shooting in Wisconsin, ultimately deciding that they wouldn't leave the locker room for the start of Game 5 against Orlando.

The NBA, owners and front offices didn't see this wave of player boycotts coming today. Hours ago, they all expected to be playing these games tonight. This is a pivot point for the NBA and professional sports in North America.

This is significant. And it would be interesting to see. I can see football boycotting all week 1 games. I think that would have the biggest impact of any.

I think I saw some teams cancelled practice today. Lions I believe were one.

I support what they are doing but I really wonder if it's going to make a difference.

I wonder the same, but if this snowballs to other leagues, and then other mediums, who knows.

I am hoping it does. Look at what happened to the Redskins. They changed their name because of pressure from sponsors. If athletes won't play, you have team owners, TV networks, sponsors, etc. putting pressure for a change.

If this doesn't, then they keep escalating. Something had to change and this is the first step to kick the conversation into a new gear.

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly says there are currently no plans to postpone tonight's games. "I don’t expect the League to initiate a game stoppage. Obviously, our Players are free to express themselves in any manner they feel is appropriate."

Milwaukee Brewers also refused to play tonight. The Reds agreed so the game is not being played.

I am but I'm also realistic. Sure you can say the pressure helped change the Washington teams name change, but you're battling a different beast by tackling the police force and the American government. They don't really care if teams are playing sports or not.

As I say, I hope this works.

Local and national government officials have made it abundantly clear this is false.

Sports is an important part of American life and Americans feeling "normal". Sports playing absolutely matters.

Talk is cheap and all we've seen from politicians is lip service for years.

I mean. Governers and colleges doing everything in their power to try and force college football back in the fall. Trump holding calls with commissioners of sports leagues to try and get them to restart their leagues. Cities and states lobbying the NHL and NBA to choose them as their bubble locations. Canada waiving their quarantine requirements for the NHL. Those are all actions that made it very clear sports matter to politicians.
