    Default Marner vs Dahlin

Who's the most valuable asset to you? Dahlin still have one year at 0.9m while Marner has that massive salary attached to him (10.8)

I kinda hate the leafs so I'm biased here.

Also, my forward group is much better than my D core, so that would balance things out

In a vacuum your elite forward is going to be far more dependable than a top defenseman, but the cap muddies that. I trust Dahlin with the star power of Eichel to at least be a 50-point defender annually so I'd make the bet he provides more value in a cap league, especially if you're able to leverage all that additional cap space for the coming season.

Depends on scoring system, team positions, and all that. But based only on the information given, I'd go with Dahlin. His peak value is likely to be around the same value as Marner's. Dahlin's salary next year and for the next couple are likely to be far less than Marner's 10.8, especially with flat salary caps in the near future. He's probably looking at a bridge deal around, i'll guess, 7 million for a couple of years, give or take. Dahlin is closer to 20 years old than 21. I'd take the chance on Dahlin.

Intersting, I might just go for it. I also think Dahlin's next contrat will be under 10.8 even if that kid deserve a nice contract for sure

I'd try for a slight sweetener if I"m giving up Marner.

in cap league i like to get 10 points out of each 1 mil i spend so Marner is close but not there. If Dhalin scores 60 points (which i think is max u can expect regurally) he needs to be around 7 mil to match Marners production...i think it will be close. I personally would keep elite F here but i dont think you make mistake either way

Next season while Dahlin is still under his ELC give me Dahlin. After that I think it becomes close, assuming that Dahlin earns ~7M on his next contract. So I think it depends on whether you see yourself competing this upcoming season. In a vacuum I'd probably prefer Dahlin.

Next year Dahlin is the best option but once that ELC is gone, so is his sweet value to you. At that point, what's the odds you could acquire Marner for him? That's what I'd be thinking and I'm betting Marner looks a whole lot better at that point.

If you can afford Marner short term, he's who I want.

Flip a coin. This will come down to whether your team is weaker up front or on defence.

Marner's value is obviously going to change in a cap league but despite the recent opinions about his playoff performance, it's worth noting he was scoring on pace for another 90+ points this season if he hadnt missed time. He's also still very young. That's a top-20 point producer whose prime will likely continue for a good few years.

Dahlin was pacing for 55 at 19 years old on a really bad team. That's kind of amazing and this kid is going to be a beast. He's also going to get paaaaiiiiiid at this rate...I'm not sure how much you can trust that a 1OA pick who is ahead of Bobby Orr and every other defenseman not named Phil Housley as a rookie is going to get a $7mil bridge deal. Especially in Buffalo. They need him, he knows they need him. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they try and lock him up long term right off his ELC like they did with Eichel. So I wouldn't hold my breath for a better cap hit.

For you, Dahlin makes sense because you say already strong up front.

I would take the Dahlin end just shooting for the upside.

As mentioned earlier, see if you can get a sweetner (pick, another player, whatever). It doesn't hurt to press and you can fall back to the 1-for-1 swap if that falls through.

I'm going Dahlin, safe 50-60 point guy IMO as long as he plays with Eichel.
