    Default NHL Sweepstakes 50/50+

    - The National Hockey League (NHL®) today announced a one-day NHL 50/50+ Sweepstakes presented by Honda, Official Automotive Partner of the NHL, taking place Saturday, Aug. 15 to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.
The sweepstakes begins with a guaranteed total prize of $200,000 USD and is open to U.S. and Canadian residents (excluding Quebec, due to unavailability of the sweepstakes). Half will be won by one lucky fan, while the other $100,000 USD will go to Boys & Girls Clubs of America or Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, depending on the location of the winner's residence. Fans can donate $10 to receive ten entries, $20 to receive 80 entries, or $40 to receive 200 entries.

I am willing to bet that the prize pool for this 50/50 ends up much lower than the ones for the Oilers games!

    Thanks for sharing.

While I'm all for helping a good cause, and BGC is a great cause this is some slimy marketing IMO.

To further support the inspiring work being done by Boys & Girls Clubs across North America, any amounts raised above and beyond $200,000 - net of expenses - through the sweepstakes will go entirely to Boys & Girls Clubs of America or Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (the winning fan's prize will not exceed $100,000, regardless of the size of the total amount raised).
This is NOT a traditional 50/50 where half the pot goes to the winning ticket. This is a chance to win $100,000. I see this backfiring on the NHL, the reason 50/50 draws get to really high jackpots is those buying tickets get excited about the jackpot continuing to climb.

That's awful. So someone is fronting $200,000 in case no one enters the contest. Then they get their money back once there is $200,000 in "donations". Then the company running the promotion takes all of their "expenses" (ie profit) and gives the Boys & Girlls Clubs $100,000, gives a winner $100,000. This company walks away with more money than either the winner or the BGC. This is a disgrace.
