    Default Limited keeper trade

Similar sort of situation to Skippy's thread a little bit ago. Limited keeper (8, first in sig), so offseason trades tend to be fairly lopsided when trying to acquire high end talent. I have my eye on Q Hughes, but, on paper anyway, the ask is maybe a bit high.

    His: Hughes/Replacement/3rd (26th overall)

    For my: Couturier/DeAngelo/1st (11th overall)

    Current keeper list:

    Kucherov
    Matthews
    E Pettersson
    JT Miller
    Couturier
    DeAngelo
    Hedman
    Andersen

Non-keepers (would need to pick up one from this list to replace Couturier):

    Larkin
Bjorkstrand (got a soft spot for this guy)
    Keller
    Arvidsson
    Letang

Couturier kinda hurts cuz he's so cheap for the next two season, but DeAngelo I'm on the fence about, even though they're gonna be a hot team. Some of the players who went at those picks last season (was a banging draft as we had a couple teams folded in):

11th overall: Forsberg, Dumba, S Jones
    26th overall: Dadanov, Marchessault, Nurse

    Anyway, thanks for any feedback!

I'd pass, personally. An extra few million for Larkin (who'd be my next keeper, I think). And a significant drop in picks. I'm also worried Hughes might get a monster contract after his ELC runs out.

I don't have a ton of faith in DeAngelo, and I get why you'd do this. I just don't think I would go that high...

I'd counter that and give him a list of non-Couturier players you were on the fence about keeping, plus DeAngelo.

I doubt I'd be keeping DeAngelo over some of those options anyway.

Larkin, DeAngelo, and the 1st I would do. Couturier, probably not.

Thanks folks, yeah I think it's just not a great trade. Been trying to hash it out and it's just not a good fit. Gotta take my Canucks goggles off :/

I would make that move. There's a chance that Deangelo is not in the NHL next season. Yep, I said it and I believe it.

What's the thinking behind that claim?

Yeah that's a weird one, care to elaborate?

Also, curious if attitudes have shifted at all now the first round is over. I know the playoffs aren't the best barometer of regular season success, but man Hughes has been money for points.

I'm actually more likely at this point to say that even Larkin/DeAngelo/1st may be a bit of an overpay. I love Hughes, and he's an amazing fantasy asset, but there comes a point where you're going to be hurting your depth too much.

    You're probably not wrong...
Did the other GM give any indication that there could be some other options to explore?

He doesn't have a contract for next year at this time. His social media antics could cause the Rangers and the other NHL teams to decide that he is not worth having on their team. That's my reasoning.

    Trump's Willy reply in 3, 2, 1...

I thought that might be your reasoning though, although I seriously doubt there would be any sort of league-wide blacklisting of a talented young defenceman simply because of his online politics. Hockey is still a very conservative sport, and he would be picked up super quick if the Rangers cut him loose.
