Another team with constant changeover and turning into a mess. Pronger got out early.

Am I wrong to think Tallon is a decent GM? I suspect he'll catch on with another team within a short time.

I'm quite tempted to suggest that you're wrong. At the very least no team should hire him until the expansion draft is over considering how he handled the last one.

His successor has to deal with potentially losing 2 of the teams top-6 forwards for nothing (with the rumour ownership wants salary cut) as well as

    Matheson - 6yrs left at $4.88M AAV
    Yandle - 3yrs left w/ nmc at $6.35M AAV
    Stralman - 2yrs left at $5.5M AAV
    Bobrovsky - 6yrs left at $10M AAV
    Luongo buyout for another 2yrs
    Darling buyout for another 3yrs

Good points Dennis. Sounds very similar to a certain guy Edmonton had in the GM chair for a while, Peter Chiarelli.

Yeah, I remember the Eriksson and Sutter signings being not great at the time and clearly Myers hasn't worked out. Contracts are the toughest thing for GM's to navigate. Giving too many bad contracts can really jam up a team for a long time.

Chiarelli had some bright spots. Locking up McDavid at $12.5M and Draisaitl at $8.5M both look pretty good right now. Even Koskinen at $4.5M didn't turn out as bad as many thought (myself included).

Florida went off the rails when they fired Gallant. They’ve had more talent and experience since he was let go but theyve never been as good of a team.

I thought Quenneville was going to lead them to the playoffs this year.

I'm unsure when Tallon got kicked upstairs - being promoted out of the GM, but the GM who fired Gallant was the GM at the time, who ended up coaching, if I remember correctly.

I suspect the owner is a big part of the issues there.

I think somewhere along the way Florida forgot they were rebuilding and started to think they were contenders. I'm not sure if the blame for that falls at Tallons feet or ownerships.

To be fair, this team has been playing in front of one of the leagues worst fanbases for some time now. They are lucky to get 10k fans to their games no matter how they are doing in the standings in recent years. Maybe trying too hard to lure back fans by signing big named FAs like Bobrovsky came back to bite them in the arse.

None the less, it will be interesting to see what a new GM coming in will do. They have some big contracts coming off the books and some exciting young players still in the system.

Is it bad that I actually think this looks better than I had thought?
