For sure.
One of two things will happen next year:

a) Wilson (current SJ GM) will do something with Jones to save his bacon on that front, or
b) Wilson will be fired and next GM will do something with Jones to show a change

Either way, neither GM can afford to "stay the ship" with Jones.
It would be disastrous for either... because the team needs to "appear" to be making changes - and changing out the G1 is the easiest way to represent that.

no love for Blackwood so I will throw him a bone. Kid is only 23 and despite being on the Devils has had a .915 o better save % albeit in two seasons and not starting over 50 games. He did double his starts from last year, went 22-14-8 on the Devils, and his stats stayed relatively the same. I think he is one of those guys that if you hop on board now, you're going to look real savvy in a couple seasons.

Blackwood was a pleasant surprise this year, but the Ruff signing scares me. I am in the Lehner camp 100% here. Just watching him calmly control his crease is amazing. Any team with any doubts with their current goalie situation should be jumping all over Lehner for next season and at least 3-4 years beyond. I don't know if Chicago has enough money to land him.

Man id trade Murray for Lehner in a heart beat too. Hes posted really good numbers last few years. Even if he signs in VGK he will take over, MAF is getting older and probably be playing in Seattle if Lehner resigns. I'd gamble on Lehner then Grubauer before Murray ...goalies r voodoo tho lol

I meant Jones would get sent down because he's terrible, and that would free up the starter slot. SJ may have enough cap for Lehner even without taking Jones off the books. If they can get him off somehow though, even better.

I'd be willing to move him for Lehner. I dropped Murray in the league in my sig a while ago - Pittsburgh goalies are pretty hot & cold. Due to a lack of options on the wire, I needed to go get Jarry to actually be able to start a decent goalie in this league at one point. He was hot at the time, and is now part of a 3 man group.

I really miss the days where I had Roy backing up Hasek in this league.

Also, Jones' contract isn't that onerous as far as cap hit goes, the real issue is length. $5.75M is too much, but if it was short, it wouldn't be bad. However through 23-24 is terrible. Based on Cap Friendly, the Sharks are looking to need 10 players at $15M total next year, with only LaBanc being due a big raise.

....and, all these comments were before Murray gave up 7 goals in Penguins’ first intrasquad scrimmage. (Jarry didn’t face Crosby/Guentzel, but gave up zero.). Next intrasquad is Monday.

I heard Rutherford on the radio recently and he smartly referenced Murray as a "solid" and "proven" guy. He even went so far as to give him the bulk of the credit for the cup wins.
Reading between the lines though, it felt more like a GM posturing - trying to create the perception of extra value to maximize trade return.

It's either that or a GM who knows who helped his team win two Stanley Cups. Could be one or the other or somewhere in between.

I don't know if Murray will be a top 5-10 goalie but he should be a top 20 goalie. Value that how you wish.
