Is it possible to get Matthews?

I've always thought about how I'd acquire Matthews from the current owner in the league in my sig. He's a Canucks fan but I don't have any marquee Nucks to offer.

Is there any offer I could make without including McDavid?

Their keeper situation is full of holes. Matthews is their one key guy. They could use help at all positions.

Could you sell him on Tavares plus Hamilton? He still gets an elite centre, plus a top defenseman. Maybe throw in Meier as well, if it will help improve his keepers. Sounds steep, but you're already dropping two of those guys anyways.

Tavares + Hall might get it done. I'd keep Hamilton over Hall.

That's my approach. See what he comes back with, and you can go from there rather than going in blind.

Agree with Axe and EB. Ask him. See if it’s possible and who he wants for his roster. In all honesty though, if I was the OGM, I’d respond to your statement about “holes in my roster” with “we will eventually All have holes in our roster in a keep 6”. If I wasn’t being offered something substantial, I wouldn’t water down the one STAR keeper I had. Rather keep AM34 and hope I can do well at the draft. Should be lots of great players available and hopefully I have some good picks stashed.

I dont believe in untouchables in fantasy, but some GMs do and for all you know Matthews is untouchable for him. For all you know, McDavid might not get it done (although he would be an idito of that was the case) but the only way you'll know for sure is to simply ask if Matthews is someone he'd consider moving. No sense chasing your tail with offers if he's not willing to part with him.

not worth the price IMO. From your roster it would be dealing depth for star power. Even then the price is prob too steep.

I find that sometimes the problem with asking is the other GM will start really high and you can't get him off it. If you ask, he might ask for McDavid and not come down too much. Start with Tavares-plus for example, and you might not have to add too much more.

Then ask him if he would be interested in a Matthews for Tavares+ type of deal. I have a hard time seeing him want JT+ for Matthews unless the + is significant, but who knows.

Really, the first question should be to find out if AM is even someone he'd consider trading.

If the guy has holes everywhere, and his only good keeper is Matthews, then it sounds like you'll be dealing with a rebuilder mentality. And why a rebuilder would trade Matthews is beyond me.

This past fall a Matthews trade went down in my Dynasty league:

Taylor Hall, Victor Hedman & Martin Jones was traded for Austin Mathews & a 2020 2nd round pick.

The real question to me is why are you not protecting hamilton in a start 6 d , he would be ahead of hall and tank for me, and hall and tank may be a good start for matthews if the guy has other weak keepers

I recently traded for Matthews in a 12 Team Keep 6. I gave Eichel, Laine & a 2nd for Matthews, Teravainen and a 5th. (A few days later I was able to give Pettersson + to get Eichel back.)
