*There were some mammoth busts, especially Yakupov, but also Sam Bennett. Nice parlay there by the Nats who moved him for a big return when the demand was high.
Easy to forget trades from years ago... had to look back and see what the Bennett trade was (received Konecny, Teravainen and pick upgrades) after your breakdown above, Peng. Might have been my personal best trade in the WHL to-date. Now if only I held onto Konecny... traded him two years later for a surging Eberle in the midst of my quest toward the Nats first Championship. Damn COVID...

Have to make a team your own, and this was a team that seemed to be in the midst of moving down the standings when it didn't have to. We're going in the right direction again.

Time for the 5th and 6th rounds I guess, eh?

    D Alex Pietrangelo - STL 5 11 107 LS
    LW Brayden Schenn - PHI 6 14 134 LS

O' captain my captain - Mr. Alex Pietrangelo has been the core of our backend since the inaugural draft (finishing as the top 20, 30, 15, 13 and 5 dman in our league set-up since Season 1 - all-the-while averaging ~74 GP per season). And he is looking to get paid for his hard work to-date this off-season. Hoping for nothing more than a $1-$2m bump. He has certainly earned it.

I think it was in Season 2 when I ended up trading

    Comments:
*Lots of good youth picks going here... as the smarter GMs focused towards the future
*Barkov & Pastrnak were such incredible cornerstone value-contracts... both those WHL teams (OSH-bobby4ev, and BRAHAM-glorybe23) have had great success with those players.
*The Sedin picks have to be considered busts... as they were basically 50pt players for 3 seasons, then retired.
*Much like Okposo (rd3) and Backes(rd4), Andrew Ladd just went to Bust-City as soon as he changed teams. 46/31/29/11/1 pt decline. Woof.
*Most won't remember that Hudler was coming off an absolute CAREER season with CGY, 76pts... but he went 46/11/out after two seasons.
*And Bobby Ryan had gone 56/25/33/42/8... while that's not a massive fall-out... NOBODY in the WHL wanted that contract which everybody knew was at $7.25m, as of Oct 2nd, 2014 signed extension!!

Before I came in the Nailers still had all six of their original first six picks. I'm very curious to see who the next rounds are.

Oshie seems to be sticking around for a while as he refuses to age. Hayes was paid too highly to be worth keeping at the moment. He had his useful years though.

    That's interesting.
Suggests that original owner (Brosive) wasn't much of a trader.
There's 3-4 "hold em" GMs in the WHL.
We'll have to post his trades once we get to that portion of the calendar for s1. (*verified: 0 trades in season1, 1 minor trade in s2)
    I don't believe his team ever made the playoffs. (s1: 15th, s2: 13th)

Well if the hold-em strategy didn't work for this franchise, hopefully some of these moves will help!

I remember thinking I reached for ROR too early, especially with his big salary.

I was going back and forth on Barkov and Doughty here, was also hoping Hamilton would fall - settled for Leddy who was decent back then in the Tavares years.

Oh yes ... Yakupov. Who’d a thunk it. Was trying for a homerun pick... he sucks and eventually runs home. Surprised I was able to Actually move him for ANY value.

I fear one more bold red pick in this look down memory lane. (More than 1 I’m sure but another pops into my mind which I made from the SkyDome watching a ball game as you all waited on me).
