You've already got a solid defence and adding Hronek keeps you at 4D while you get a 2C and another piece, perhaps someone like Askarov if you have a farm system?

    How many do you keep?
Do you have a farm system?
Is the draft rookies only or anyone not kept (if so who would went 10th last year)?
Can you get another pick perhaps?

I wouldn’t do this deal. Necas is looking decent, Hronek too, and the pick is good, but Makar has the potential to be the best in his position, and your best player.

I a league with 15 keepers I think I would have to do this one. Hronek will only get better as Detroit improves and I see him putting up 50-55 pts easily for many years. While I like Makar more than Hronek obviously, it isnt by a huge margin. Lets say Makar is a 70 pt dman, which as good as he looks, very few dmen do year in year out, that leaves him 15-20 pts better than Hronek.

This gap is easily made up when you consider you are weak at centre and are getting Necas. Carolinas offence is great so he will reap the benefits. He may be a bit assist heavy but will still put up 70 pts or so I'm betting with a great +\- to boot.

Adding a top 10 pick in a very deep draft pushes me over the fence.

If it were a keep 6 or 8 I'd probably pass but keep 15 and I'm hitting accept.

I like that deal. You get a good young D back, a good young C - which you can definitely use, and a high pick.

Great points, and while I would agree that Makar could very well be the best at his position, I have to consider playing from my strengths and filling multiple needs. What are your thoughts on countering when you get a good deal? Does it come off as a douche bag move? I'm not looking to offend, but he is a great player, and this GM does seem to want him pretty bad.

Countering when you get a deal you like, that has already been added to, risks losing the deal. It also can be douchey, but it depends on what the counter is.

If you wanted to remove one of the players, and replace them with somebody else of generally similar value - that's fine. If you have them add in a guy like Marner, that's douchey.

GM upped his offer again...I inquired if he would move Theodore as part of a deal, he said that he feels Hronek will be as good as Theodore, but he wants to compete this coming season, and Hronek's +/- will hurt his chances.

    OFFER NOW IS...

    NECAS
    HRONEK
SEIDER w/3 more years farm team eligibility
    10th Overall Junior Draft
    21st Overall Junior Draft

    4

    MAKAR

If I didn't have Makar as part of my trade block, because I didn't see myself moving him, should I be shopping him or simply making a deal. Whats the best way to proceed?

I was onboard when it was Necas, Hronek and the 10th pick. The fact that Seider, who can be stashed for 3 yrs which is great, as well as the 21st pick has been added, is just gravy for me. Not sure what can be gained from delaying too long, other than the other GM getting cold feet and backing out.

Overall seems like a great deal. You lose a little production on D but have Fox and Chabot to help make up for that. However, you gain a future star centre, your weakest position BTW, a very nice D prospect and 2 nice picks, one which is top 10 in a stacked draft.

The other guy gets a great young Dman, who he clearly loves. Win win.

I would be mashing accept at this point. Just one guys opinion.

I'd absolutely hit accept with the new offer. Seider will be a very good all around D, that's quite the addition to the offer...

I'm the odd duck. In an essentially points only auction league, I'd not moving Makar for a bunch of pieces that I don't think will ever be as good as him.

None of these pieces helps you much now. And I bet you'll end up dropping some of them for nothing down the road.

I think there's a reason he's throwing all his spare parts at you...
