    Default Matheson vs Grzelcyk

Both 26 years old and have been blocked by Yandle and Krug on the PP. Are these guys worth targeting as possible break out candidates or are they trapped in being what they are for another year? John Carlson broke out at his 27 - 28 year so both these guys are on my radar. Just not sure on the offensive upside of both defensman but Matheson was a beast in college.

In both fantasy and Scrabble (with proper nouns allowed), I'd prefer Grzelcyk right now. I think his opportunity is better. Krug may leave Boston, leaving the #1 PP spot open. When Krug was hurt he did get #1 PP deployment over McAvoy.

Matheson is behind Yandle & Ekblad. Yandle is slowing, but Ekblad is growing, and I view Ekblad as a bigger impediment than McAvoy, and an under contract Yandle as a slightly bigger impediment than Krug.

If Krug resigns in Boston, I would prefer Matheson, as Krug is that #1 PP guy if he's healthy.

Great feedback! I will look to pick up Grzelcyk IF Krug signs elsewhere with a later round pick.

If Krug signs elsewhere, Grzelcyk is an insta-add. That is, I'd have a browser window open adding him all day on the FA signing day so that when Bob McKenzie or whomever announces he signs with someone other than Boston, I would have the window already open to save time.

Something that could also potentially change the situation is the Bruins going for a 5 forwards PP1 unit next year as Cassidy has been toying with the idea for a while now (and he said he would be testing the concept if Krug leaves BOS). It shouldn't change your choice too much but still something to look out for

Well it seems to me that one fairly important consideration here is not being considered. We seem to be anointing Grzelcyk the clear PP1 guy in Beantown. What about 22 year old Charlie McAvoy? I don't think this is a slam dunk whatsoever, McAvoy is absolutely in the discussion. Time will tell.

I think that there were times where Krug was out and they gave time to Grzelcyk and not to McAvoy, but my recollection may be clouded.

No you're right that's exactly what they did. McAvoy didn't benefit at all from Krug absence as far as PP1 unit time goes. So past deployment would suggest that Grzelcyk would go on the PP1, unless the strategy changed.

I have very little time for Matheson. Grzelcyk could be a PP specialist were Krug to move on. I also wonder if the Panthers would roll out the 5F PP look if Yandle moved on.

Boston has the cap room to sign Krug, especially since more prolific veterans on the team took less money to build a stronger team. I can't see him going anywhere.

I think that they're both trapped being what they are. If I HAD to pick one, I'd pick Grzelcyk, but that's only in a gun-to-ahead, no-repercussions situation.

Great feedback, I have Jake Gardiner so was looking for an older depth guy that is a better option and a good value pick up. Think Erick Gustafsson when he broke out in Chicago. Both Matheson and Grzelcyk happen to be available in my dynasty league which is why I chose those two. Thanks again! On another note who could replace Pietrangelo in St. Louis if he happens to sign elsewhere? ( I think he signs but interesting opportunity for someone if he doesn't .... Dunn etc.)
