I just read that about Nike this morning. Public outcry is one thing but take away money from them and action might actually happen.

Yup. Now that the pocketbook is being hit I expect this to happen. Overdue, but good to see.

Sucks for the players. Players get a percentage of their jersey sale I do believe. However I don't know how that's monitored (buying a blank jersey and getting a name put on it wouldn't be covered I'd assume).

PepsiCo also has put pressure on the team. Honestly I'm surprised at this, I thought the only way the team would get renamed would be if they got a new owner. However, this might be enough to have them change the name.

Whoops, I guess up here in Canada, we don't learn much about American history! The 9 team Canadian Football League once had two teams named Rough Riders (Ottawa) and Roughriders (Saskatchewan). Hilarious in a 9 team league!

Years and years of backlash over the name. "We want to keep the name as it honours blah blah blah blah", second sponsorships get lifted and money is on the line, "we will do a thorough review of the team name".

this is just typical to the business world, but man it makes me shake my head. But I get the reasoning for the switch now.

Also I think Washington already bought the "Washington Warriors" rights a few yrs ago in preparation something like this would happen.

Washington Advocates. Heck, there’s more lawyers in that town than trees, anyway. And with the USA trend to change police into social science majors.....

That's what the Patriots need to change their name to.

IMO, time is now or never.

I could see them falling like dominos:

    1. Blackhawks stay Blackhawks, but drop the Indian head for a an actual hawk, still with the feathers somehow worked into logo. (I would assume this is underway, but won't be revealed until Hawks are out of the playoffs. Everything has already been branded for this hockey season.)

    2. Indians is a tough one because it has to be a full on-switch. I've heard of Spiders and Guardians and Naps... IDK, but they need to get it done. (This is another case where the team's marketing has been done for this current season. But I would still expect an announcement going into the season... to prepare fans for the last year of the "Indians".)

    3. Redskins, IMO, is the easiest. Red Tails would be great. Especially with Haskins tweet. Run with it.
(I remember Miami of Ohio made their switch back before 2000 - going to RedHawks.)

They even switched over in England a few years ago, LOL:
    https://thehockeynews.com/news/artic...s-logo-jerseys

It's amazing that the Syracuse college switched from Orangemen to Orange in 2004... and still 16 years later, the pro teams are holding firm.

    Now.Is.The.Time.
    Get it Done.
