    Default Vince Carter Retires

Vince Carter has decided to hang up the ol' basketball shoes.

The announcement was largely a formality because the 43-year-old Carter had said many times over the course of this season that this would be his last in the NBA. His 22 seasons are the most in league history, and he became the first NBA player to appear in four different decades.

Didn't he announce before this season that it would be his last? I can't remember but for some reason that is coming to me in my old head.

I just sold a graded Carter Rookie card last week. Maybe should have waited a week to get a bit more out of the announcement, but it was a good offer for a not very valuable card so bird in the hand and all that.

Great career and got a lot of people interested in basketball in Canada. Hope he enjoys "retired" life.

Gotcha. I cant say I remember him saying that in the past but I don't doubt he did. None the less, he had an incredible career and was huge in promoting Basketball in Canada.

Thanks for the memories Air Canada!

There's very few athletes who walked into retirement the way VC just did. He transitioned from high flyer, to scorer, to vet, to teacher with no outside issues to tarnish his image.

I started following the Raptors seriously prolly around 10yrs ago. So I just caught the hate train of VC and was all about it. But I never really understood why the city hated him to the point they did. Around 6-7yrs ago that narrative changed and Toronto wanted VC back actually. If only he joined the team off the bench last yr, imagine if he decided he wanted to go for a championship and asked Atlanta to release him? I'm sure Toronto would have had him on the bench.

If you watched basketball you would know he wasn't dead.
