Purge as much as necessary and let the new management hire their own people...and then give them 3 or 4 years (a lifetime in professional sports) to get back on their feet. Good luck Jack Eichel, your team is rebuilding...still.

It sounds like the Pegulas are cleaning house so they don't have to pay anyone for a few months since NHL contracts for both players and staff tend to run from July 1st to July 1st. Why would they need to pay a scouting staff as Central Scouting provides a list for free?!!

Won't do well until they get Eichel help. And they need to either find massive diamonds in the rough or get lucky and have good players take massive pay cuts to play with Eichel.

Skinner, Okposo, Johansson, and having Risto are anchors of contracts on that team.

But omg the new GM has some work to do when he/she arrives.

Simmonds, Frolik, Reinhart, Vesey, Girgensons, Larsson, Kahun, Olofsson, Lazar, Montour, Pilut, Ullmark.

So another goalie, 1-2D, 8-9F need to be signed or re-signed. So like 37mill in space for 11-12 players.

If they have a contract, aren't they still obligated to pay them out? I don't know. I know it's that way with coaches and GMs.

Typically it's you pay the coach until he gets a new job.

So the Leafs would be pay Babcock until Babcock signs with a new team. Depends how the contract is written though, but seems to be common practice with coaches. I don't know about GMs though.

This matches up well with the recent article from the Athletic chronicling the bumbling, in-over-their-head, overly-ambitious, selfish Pegulas. The article made me angry and I don’t particularly care about Buffalo sports.

GM and coach contracts aren't July1st written. They are dated to "random" dates. So trying to save money move with firing a GM is not true. They pay out the contract, and staff members deals aren't July1st written. So what's the point besides wanting him out, and a new GM in place for the draft. The only thing I could see is maybe some health insurance not happening when someone is fired as a cost saving.
