    Default Ivan Provorov

    Hey guys!!

I really love Ivan Provorov but in a points only (1goal=1 point and 1 assist=1 point), is he a stud? He could be a guy who will do 55 pts and more? Or a solid D with 40-45 pts a year? I think the gost will be out of Philly soon so Provorov could be the man on the first pp for some years to come.

    Thanks for your comments!

Ivan Provorov clearly will have the opportunity - and that’s at least half of any projection. Why didn’t Tyson Barrie produce one Toronto? answer, Morgan Rielly. Why did Pionk flourish in Winnipeg? Opportunity.

So, yes - Provorov scoring anything less than 50 would be a surprise. Or an injury.

12-team, H2H. Keep 12, but drop 2 of top four skaters, and also 2 of next six, then five more (from end-of-year rankings). One GK max.

Can he get 55 points in a season? Yes.

Will he? I don't know - he's the best Flyers D in a while, and can play all phases. I feel he's a definite future Norris candidate, but we'll see. I'd worry about that projection due to the coach - it's not a high scoring style of play.

He's a great great real hockey Dman. His IQ is amazing. Unfortunately for fantasy, coach is gonna use him to win games. And that won't allow Professional Vorov to go nuts in the O-zone like he actually can. Deployment will be key, but since the Flyers have a few Dmen coming into the fold with solid offensive talents, you may just have to accept a 40-45 point dude with excellent peripherals and plus/minus.

I also think that Provorov's real world value is much higher than his fantasy value in a Pts only format. There are young guns in the pipeline but the Flyers could also go out and land a PP QB like Tyson Barrie, Krug or AP for example. So assuming Provorov will be handed the PP1 reins is far from a given, he is just as likely to be deployed, as he is now, to continue to play the tough minutes. In a points only, Provorov is a bit of a gamble if you are looking for a 55 pt + DMan IMO.

I also like Provorov a lot as real Dman. But because he's that good, he could be given the harder assignments and more defensive responsibilities. Even if Ghost is gone, Philly cound decide to give the no1 PP gig to a e.g. Sanheim. He could be just as good on the PP, but would never be as stout on the defensive end as Provorov. So Provorov's upside could be limited a bit because of how his ice time is managed. Think Trouba in NY (while DeAngelo and Fox get more PP time).
