Another option is randomize the draft order and also randomize the draft year.

So it would be predetermined what round is which draft year. This would be the easiest format.

All things considered I think this is the way to go. As pmorrow said, have 30 mini-drafts. It would still be fun with no confusion and allow us to snake.

Would having the draft years go in order from 1991 onwards simplify things as well?

I dunno, the original reason I didn't want to do it draft by draft was that the randomization of the draft order could very well determine who picks the best team. For instance, if I got lucky to pick first in 2004, 2005 and 2015, game over. PH I think your original draft order concept is the fairest.

Great point! Randomization prevents that for sure!

To clarify I am still in favour of going draft by draft, but I think we should still allow a team to select which draft year we're doing each round. That way we avoid the 'luck of the draw' aspect of simply winning/losing the lottery. That way if someone wants to target a draft to get the player they want they can do that strategically, instead of just relying on the lottery. Otherwise we are no better than Kevin Lowe and Steve Tambellini's Oilers!

This will probably complicate things too much, but I'm wondering if there should be any restrictions beyond draft year?

IE - if you have 30 picks, only 10 (or 15) or whatever can be 1st round picks. Or … you need at least 5 picks on your team from the 4 round on...

It's just an idea.

I assumed als_revenge was interested... we will have to confirm.

I think the format is going to be the snaking of drafters deciding the draft round. And then rotating through the draft order.

I think the question becomes:

Do we go ahead with just 4 people and nail down the format 100% and start right away?

Or so we wait and see if we can find a couple more?

Yes to elaborate it would be basically what we discussed on the first page. Do a draft lottery, then the winner gets first crack at picking the draft year in round 1 and picks first. 2nd in the lottery chooses the draft year in round 2 and picks first. then once each team has picked a draft year (round 4 or 5 or 6 depending on how many teams), we "snake" it back by letting the team who picked the draft year in the last round to pick the draft year again, and so on. Once we firm up the # of teams we can do the lottery and show everyone the order and clarify things.

I would be good to go with 4 teams.

Draft two players per draft class.

And do the last 24 draft classes (which would mean each team gets to pick the draft year 6 times) or 28 draft classes (7times per person)
