    Default Evan Bouchard

Can we expect Bouchard to be a regular for the Oilers next season? Assuming he eventually grabs the first PP job, would it be safe to say he’s got 60 point upside?

that's asking a lot for a first year defender. He will come and he will get his shot but the leash will be short.

I didn’t mean first pp and 60 points next year. Just eventually.

It seems more likely than not that at some point Bouchard will be a PP1 for the Oilers or someone. Don't know if he'll get 60, but 50 seems a very reachable goal.

Would you prefer him over Boqvist?

I think that Boqvist is better individually than Bouchard, and has a more direct path to regular minutes and relevance. And, you know what? I would use that to my advantage, if I owned Boqvist. I would try to trade Boqvist for Bouchard and a plus, if I could. The upside of being the quarterback on a PP with McDavid and Draisaitl is so much greater than the upside the Boqvist would have in Chicago.

Now, if you prefer to play it safe, then, Boqvist is the answer here. He is much more certain to get PP1 duties, and have earlier success than Bouchard.

    Food for though.

I don't like Bouchard--never have. The love fest has to do with him being Oil property--and I get it--he is the ultimate scratch off ticket that could hit big.
Adam Boqvist is 5x the talent Bouchard is IMO--tailor made for today's game. I love Boqvist and would take him over Bouchard any day.
Could Bouchard end up the "next Carlson"? Sure. But I'm not holding my breath--there's too much about his game that I don't like.
Boqvist will be a stud--we're talking Ryan Ellis or Toby Enstrom--and I have more confidence he'll be a steady 45-55 point D with potential to do more.

I think he's very likely a PP defenseman at the NHL level. Remains to be seen if that's a PP1 talent, or just a PP2 talent, but he should get a shot.

60 point upside is a perfect storm of conditions for most defensemen. However, he has part of that storm already sitting in Edmonton. Could he reach 60 one or more years? Maybe, but I agree that looking at 50+ point upside makes more sense.
