not going to speculate on what happens but they'll be doing anything to get him to either accept a trade, retire, etc. They just signed yet another goalie to his ELC to replace Igor in the AHL, so we're looking at the 3 headed dragon once again for next season. I cannot see them carrying three an entire year so something's gotta give. A buyout is not how I want the era of the goalie I watched from 15 years old to present end but I wouldn't be shocked either, as Gorton has shown in the past he's not afraid to use that angle.

What impacts to the cap would there be if Lundy DID retire before the end of his final year?

They would get cap recapture penalty of $4mill I believe. The only other time a retired player effects the cap is if they were over the age of 35 when their contract began which would put the team on the hook for the entire cap hit but wouldn’t apply here.

Do you think he’ll be a buyout for NYR and get a chance to win elsewhere?

Yes Rangers should buy him out and sign with the Red Wings a contract.

I think he would sign where he has the best chance to win...would be a good fit in Vancouver for 2 seasons....

You want Lundqvist over Markstrom? And aren't they going to have to trade Demko so they don't lose him in the entry draft?

Lundqvist is not about to leave the bright lights of Manhattan for British Columbia haha. Players with all the power such as him in the "greatest city on Earth" are not going to just get up and leave. He is also older with a family who is accustomed to the posh NYC life, his wife is not about to get up and go to any ol town. If he waives to accept a trade he is going to a major metro area a la Chicago, LA, DC, etc. More than likely he will be receiving a buyout because three goalies is just not going to work next year.

Why won't 3 goalies work next year? The schedule might be compressed, and Igor can still bounce around to AHL. I don't think 3 goalies next year is impossible...

I doubt NYR would do that to him. Out of player respect I think they keep him, and they would either run 3 goalies due to compressed schedule.
