im expecting announcement later this week and lottery next week at some point. According to Darren Gregor they are looking at adjusting their original lottery strategy with only few teams being able to win it.

Yeah, I started this thread with the thought that it’s wrong on so many levels, but going to happen anyway. Will I watch? Absolutely. Do I think the league is any worse for adjusting the draft, the trades, the contingencies? Of course not.

Next I hope they find a way to get 15-20% of seats open for fans. Not holding my breath on that one.

12-team, H2H. Keep 12, but drop 2 of top four skaters, and also 2 of next six, then five more (from end-of-year rankings). One GK max.

Very obvious the next step in fan progression is robots. Each seat has a robot in them cheering for the home team, with 10-30% of the seating designated to opposing teams robots.

The next generation of "fans" is to go back to the early 90s

Kind of expected an announcement today if the June 5-6 dates were still in play. Apparently enough push-back that Bettman can’t just roll it through.

That would be really weird. It's just really hard to picture a game in Ottawa with more Sens robots then Leafs robots...

They'd need to keep them real life accurate though. So in cities like Ottawa and Buffalo, there would be a "Leaf Adjustment Rate" applied to compensate that. Florida would get the "Snow Birds Adjustment Rate". Phoenix would get the "No Fans Adjustment Rate". It would be very thorough.

As for the draft, sounds like a 24 team NHL Playoff is the most likely scenario, so 7 teams would then be in the lottery. They could have the lottery while the playoffs happen or obviously before. June 5-6 date for the original draft would then have to be roughly when the NHL wants to start up again. Informal skating happening next week, 1 week training camp, 1-2 weeks of "regular" season games....That June 5-6 date would be smack in the middle of the "Regular" season. Could be done...

So last weekend it sounded like everyone in the know was expecting a June draft announcement the next monday. Then monday came and there was no decision made - and a lot of the top insiders said there was big pushback again over the timing and the lottery format. So they will continue to debate. But theyre definitely running out of time to do this in June.

Don't think they will announce draft format till they figure out what they are doing with the season and playoffs. Too many variables for teams.

The league already said (leaked?) that they’d give teams 7 days to renegotiate all contingent deals - then if no agreement the league would arbitrate. So it’s not that, as the hold-up. But I can’t believe they would only let 4 teams of the non-playoff group be eligible to win #1 pick. And Detroit, rumored to be guaranteed #1 or #2 by initial proposal, is one of the strong NO votes.

if clawing teams back to what their record was at 68 gp or winning pctg is good enough to rank playoff seeds then it should also be ok for draft order imo .

. "My thought is: Why would you do that? Why would you need to do that?" he said, later adding, "I haven't heard a good reason why we should do it prior to the end of the season if we do conclude the season over the course of the summer."
