Great deal for both sides. Bruins lock up a valuable piece and a very nice number. Also, with the rumors floating that Rask was considering retirement good to ensure they have at least one goalie coming back.

Halak is probably happy to secure a short-term gig and hopes to cash in next off season when the economic situation is better understood.

Very nice. Capfriendly lists a very acheivable Games-Played Bonus: $1,250,000 (10 gms) and Boston can kick the bonus AAV to 2021-22.

I think the word on Rask was that he was considering retirement at the end of his contract, which expires at the same time as the one Halak just signed.

Good signing for next year, and gives everyone some flexibility moving forward.

Taking advantage of the ability to use performance bonuses is smart business. If the cap falls way down next season, they can kick the overages into 2022 when Rask's deal is up and is rumoured to retire. They'll probably do the same with Chara if he wants to return next season. This puts the Bruins at roughly $61M committed to 17 players for 2020-21, with only Krug, Chara, DeBrusk, Grzelcyk and Nordstrom to re-sign. They can probably make the money work even if the cap drops $10M which is some crazy shit for the likely President's Trophy winner.
