With Korpisalo at $2.8 million AAV, looks like Merzlikins is anointed as the 1A.

Better goaltending and millions left over vs. having signed Bob.

    win-win-win for Columbus.

They could clone&sign Merzlikins and the three combined AAVs would barely be above Bobrovsky...

Good deals for both Gs but i feel like signing anyone before there is an idea of next years cap is maybe a bad idea.

Great deal for Columbus. I was hoping for $3M or less, but figured it was likely coming in over that.

I think Elvis had more leverage, so he got paid a bit more, but while contract is for a little more money, I still view this as a pretty open competition and the split could end up being all sorts of things.

With goalies, it's harder to do that, especially when your options behind them are hopes and questions marks, and free agents. Realize that both goalies were RFA's, and on cheap deals, so they were getting raises if they stayed in the NHL. They are both European, so the market for them isn't just the NHL.

These are still good deals, and Columbus' cap is pretty darn clean.

If I am comparing the two CBJ goalies, being completely honest, I dont think Elvis is worth the $4M compared to Joonas at $2.8M. I think Korpisalo is close enough in regards to skill and upside to warrant being the better deal here for Blue Jackets.

I am not saying Elvis isn't a good goalie. I am just saying he's not $1.2M better than Korpisalo from what I've seen, and I tend to watch a lot of CBJ games. Both guys are very good goalies.

I wonder how much Korpisalo would have wanted if Elvis had signed first.

He could have waited. He had more leverage than Merzlikins, considering this was Korpi's third contract. But good for Columbus - they have a good goalie duo locked up for the next two years.

From a fantasy point of view, it looks like another Matt Murray/Tristan Jarry situation... it's hard to invest a pick on these goalies right now.
Good problem to have for Columbus though.
    Points-only keeper league. 12 teams. Keep any 12 players. Dress 12F - 6D - 2G.

Most of the league has gone in this direction. Even for teams with a clear #1 the backup usually sees plenty of action. RIP workhorse goalies.

$4M isn't big money. But it's more than the guy with more NHL experience got, who played about as well this year. I suspect Elvis may have had some mroe leverage regarding going back overseas, but that may not have mattered much, really.

    Still a tandem situation though.
