Default Jack Hughes value in cap league

Hey all. Wondering how much value does he have in a cap league using AAV!? He has 2 years left at $3,775M AAV.

Normally with that salary I aim for players that have an honest shot at 60+ points. Anyone think he gets there next season? In 2 seasons?

I know he has very good upside but honestly I'm wondering if he's worth hanging on to, because if he only starts producing in 3 years, at that point he'll be on a new contract worth much more. My thinking is if he only gets to 45-50pts next season and 55-60pts the year after that he's taking up a keeper spot that could possibly be better filled. I could try trading him but with the season he just had his value is at its lowest.

I agree to shop him, and see what you get offered. It's also heavily rules dependent.

In my one cap dynasty league, he's completely fine, because we use cap hit. However, if he had a cap hit of $3.775M, then he'd basically be locked into a teams minors and be unplayable, or locked into a teams main roster and be a drain. This is due to our rules regarding waivers on players with cap hit over $3M.

Let's put this another way. I know I'm most likely overthinking this BUT would it be totally crazy to keep Zadina over Hughes?

My thinking is Zadina could/should post 50+ points next season and seemingly has a decent upside as well. So I figure his numbers might be comparable to Hughes' numbers for the next 2 seasons. His AAV is $1,75M compared to $3,775M, so that saves me over $2M in cap space. Each have 2 years left on their elc.

I do think Hughes has a higher upside but he did seem like a boy playing among men and I fear he might take a few years. If he takes 3 years to produce and at that point gets, lets say an $8M-$10M contract, he probably won't even be a keeper.

    Talk me off the ledge?

    Thanks

Hughes is an example of paying for upside. I'd gladly fit him into my team's payroll.

I think you should be able to fit both Zadina & Hughes, honestly.

Well we keep 7 forwards and my plans are to keep McDavid, Crosby, Pastrnak, Huberdeau, DeBrincat, Thomas and Hughes. The only possible replacement I see to fit Zadina would have been Hughes.

I have juggled with the idea of keeping Zadina over DeBrincat, thinking the Cat might fall at the draft because of the season he's had. I could then redraft him around the 2nd or 3rd round.

you can prob getaway with releasing DeBrincat to the draft but you have to plan to select him immediately as someone will go for him no doubt. Although Zadina I do not see being anything more than he is alas I know cap constraints are your concern and idk what Alex makes.

Given that, I keep Debrincat. Zadian should cost less to draft.

Thanks all. Much appreciated. Rep given where I could.

Will probably let go of Zadina and try to redraft him in the first few rounds since I'll probably have the highest protected payload and need a few very cheap contracts to balance things out... and those don't grow on trees.
