People are buying them. From what I've read there are a ton of first time buyers. Are you one of them? If yes, what have you bought and why?

My personal opinion; never, in the history of man have more abused words been spoken, than "The Right to Bear Arms"...

Of course, this is a pretty controversial topic. So, interested in seeing where this thread goes...

I have never fired a weapon before I joined the military 16 years ago. Now I am required to keep proficient so I have to go to the range every couple years. That's the only time I've held and fired a weapon and I plan on keeping it that way.

I have zero interest in owning a firearm.

I can understand some people being afraid of break-ins. As we move forward the noose will get tighter on people financially and many will start becoming desperate. I have not done so myself but I can understand this from someone else's point of view.

Are you referring to gun purchases in Canada or the US? For context there is a big difference of reasoning between the two countries...

I'm interested in both. And anywhere else. I'd like to avoid passing judgement as much as possible. I understand its a polarizing topic but hoping we can discuss it and open some dialogue on the subject. I think people are scared and the numbers don't lie, ammunition and firearms in both Canada and the USA are selling right now. I'm interested to hear from those that are buying.

    Not buying, never will.

I also wonder if there will be area differences depending on urban/rural...

I've gone out with some friends to shoot clay pigeons before. Shot a hand gun and a few other things at a range. It was fun. Never owned a rifle and figure I'd probably be no safer if I did.

Who has extra cash right now to buy a gun?

Oh right, people are dumb and will use the gov't money they received for food and bills to buy guns.

If you don't have money to protect your home with a gun... then I suggest doing some research and watch Home Alone.

With the strain on people's mental health right now guns could be a double edge sword... they could provide some sense of security... but they could also provide a lot of other senses.

I'd settle for one extra street light at the end of my dead end street for safety . Only people coming and going are neighbours or people house hunting if one of us on the street are selling .

Going state to state to province to province.
    Home invasions - residential crime/break-ins are down 10% -30%

That means less need for firearms.

    Commercial crime is up.

    99% of Criminals are opportunists.

They broke into homes because you were away on vacation or at work.

Now they break into businesses because you are at home and they are closed.

There is less need to protect one-self at home.

What if they overheard someone bragging about how much toilet paper they have in their house?

    Great post.

Emotional responses to fear and panic will over power critical thinking and rational problem solving, unfortunately.
