Default Chabot vs Dahlin vs Heiskanen

Just joined a new "points only" (G + A) league. I have the 3rd pick in the defenceman rounds. Makar and Hughes will most definitely be going 1/2. Who do you pick at 3 between these guys?

    I was leaning towards,
    1. Dahlin
    2. Chabot
    3. Heiskanen

    Thoughts?

Are these guys your only options? Wondering why no love for anyone over 23...

    C: Zibanejad, Thomas, Tavares

That would be my order. Dahlin should be the 1st off the board TBH. But I wold take whoever is left of Dahlin/Makar/Hughes - Dahlin is the youngest of the 3.

It's a dynasty. Young high end Dmen always go first/early. But I see your point.

    There's really two strategies -
build to win now and tomorrow - target players 23-30
Build for tomorrow - target players 23 and younger start to finish

What lucafen4 said. It's a new dynasty league so the high end premium assets always seem to be the young elite talent over established older versions. Acquiring a Dahlin or Makar vs Josi or Hedman is ridiculous. That's why the young guys are coveted more I guess.

I agree with grabbing the super young stars first, however don't fall into the trap of going with youth only. Proven middle-age players will put your team over the top especially if you can get them past their value point. Even guys like Petry might be available much later. You can easily win early championships on those picks alone.

    Good points.

The last two dynasties I drafted from scratch I went under 25 for the majority and also super young - It landed me Svech, Dahlin, Tkachuk.

I also as Eric mentioned, in the later rounds, drafted older players - Edler, Petry etc.

That way if you find you are out of it in year 1 you have real valuable trade assets to build on your core. IE: I moved Weber in one for Klingberg, 1st & a prospect

Example dynasty league start-up draft from last summer. Not points-only but you get the idea. Tons of "non-prospects" were picked much later than they should have been. It's not just vets that slip far down.

Good idea Eric. I'll try for a mixture of youth and Vets. I prefer my core to be young (20-24), so my first couple of picks will tend to be that. I expect to get some big pts producers later in the draft due to their age.
