This isn't related to the CERB but if you buy $700 worth of stocks and sell them at $1000, do you have to report the earnings to EI?

Are university students allowed to apply for CERB? Made more than $5000 last summer

Ya Lucafen is right. Typically, the only thing they want you to report is anything job related. So, for instance, if you receive vacation pay from your employer, or a pension, or paid sick leave, that all needs to be reported. Anything not due to employment tends to not need to be reported. So, if your sister lends you 100 dollars, or if you win the lottery, or if you find 20 dollars on the street, you would not need to report it because it isn't employment related. Now, in your case, if your job was to buy and sell stocks, then yes, you would need to report it, but I am guessing that isn't the case.

Of course I'm right.
But to your the bolded statement - Not exactly.
https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-....html#a5_3_1_6
Income earned by the investment alone is not earnings, even if the claimant spends substantial time following the progress of the investment. No matter the amount of time spent by the person, the money earned is still earned by the investment itself and not the labour, participation or involvement of the investor in the earning process. However, the issue may be one of availability if the time spent interferes with seeking or accepting employment.
If the person's 'job' is investing other peoples money aka - broker or investment adivsor - then he/she is being paid a flat rate or commission - those monies would be considered earnings - not the gains on the investment. If he/she spends day and night buying and selling stocks. those gains are not defined as earnings to be reported.

A mistake I made earlier was trying to think too far ahead and figure out a problem that applies to the next CERB period right away. The truth is they're making it up on the fly because they have to. Things are changing every day!

So I am not sure if I am misinterpreting your statement of "Of course I'm right". Are we arguing here? Are you trying to come across as cocky here or is that just the way it looks?
Listen I am not trying to start arguments here. I thought it would be nice if somebody could answer questions about a topic which is my job and many people are misinformed on. I promise you, if you made your living buying and selling stocks, they would review your "earnings" because that is essentially your salary. Just like if Joe Blow spent some time at a casino and won big, well that is not earnings. However, is Joe Blow is a professional poker player, well now the money won at the table is considered earnings, because that is his job.

1. I just gave you your own reference to show my point.
2. Every answer I give you post 'Luca is correct' as if I need validation to my answers.
3. You should check your Dobber e-mail. cuz I asked you to IM me since it's my job too and I've been doing it for 12 years.
4. If he/she a professional poker player or only does stocks for a living he/she they would be self-employed and have no hours to establish a claim to begin with.

Wow. Ok, well when I have suggested that you are right, I am agreeing with you. I never once was trying to suggest that you needed me to validate your answers. Are we to the point where agreeing with somebody is offensive? I don't get it... And yes, I just saw the notification that you messaged me. I apologize; I must have missed it.

yeah thats why I'm leaning towards not even bothering . I'll just take my 2 weeks off and come back to work refreshed minus a paycheck that I'll absorb as a financial loss . we probably cant take a vacation this summer anyways since I'd probably be extremely grossed out to stay in a hotel for a long time comin .
