Default Oliver Bjorkstrand? Help picking for draft.

I'm currently drafting in a simulated league and a couple nice players are up for a 7th round pick with 26 teams... I'm leaning towards bjorkstran right now and want to double check with all of you.

I want to pick the best player available based on value, forget cats, think hockey and their current contracts.

    Bjorkstrand
    Arvidsson
    Trocheck
    Rakell
    Schwarz
    Kuznetsov (9M)
Jamie Benn (9M and will he ever rebound or is he done?)
    Granlund
    Tuch
    Kotkaniemi
    Patrick

I could also go for a dman, but would rather not unless it's a nobrainer: pesce, sanheim, lindholm.

    Thanks all!

So this is a SIM league? Not a more traditional cat league? That changes things a bit.

In a SIM league I would think that Arvidsson & his PK duties would hold a lot of value. Esp. with him being a top 6 forward - one I expect to jump back to 60pt territory next season.

IMO. your order is pretty close to correct. Bjork is the real homerun here as he's got a full tier of potential above Arvidsson for offense

Sim league based on real life performance.

I didnt mean to put them in any specific order, but yeah Arvidsson and Trocheck have that nice PK potentiel, but it's been down this year, 40 seconds per game or so. I'm picking soon, I guess I should still go safer for now since Bjorkstrand is quite risky.

    Thanks

I have previous sim league experience. Ultimately it comes down to a bunch of different factors, mainly how the various player attributes impact the win/loss column. That part also depends on your player ratings and how much one player differs from another.

Overall I think Bjorkstrand, Arvidsson and Trocheck have similar offensive upsides. Bjorkstrand has the advantage of having better offensive stats this year. The other two should be better defensively now and in the future.

    Hey Eric,

I think we both play on WSH, my plan is to win in year 3. 6 rounds in my team looks like:

    Laine Eichel Tarasenko
Hughes(3rd prospect pick so I'm assuming Makar and Quinn will go 1-2)

    Dumba Klefbom
    Hronek

7 players because I traded Pat Kane while holding 50% salary for 5 years.

What's your pick at this point between the 3 based on the lineup thus far?

If you're going for it I'd try Bjorkstrand.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I'll get Bjorkstrand now and go for similar players on the verge of being established in rounds 8 and 9. Then we can draft up to 5 prospects starting in round 10 so 'ill probably go on a prospect spree if people are sleeping on them.

There's a chance that with the season Arvidsson &/or Troch had one might be there - even in a 26tm league - for your next pick.

The other reason to grab Bjorkstrand now is because of recency bias. His value is high now. Someone having a down year is more likely to slip and be available later.

Got him, the other two got taken not too long after. Probably going for young dmen in the 8th and 9th rounds. Starting in the 10th round we can draft up to 5 prospects and I make it a point to not draft prospect dman since they usually take too long to make it.

    Hey Eric,

I greatly value your input and will have my top 3 prospect pick today. I would be taking Makar and Quinn 1-2, but I expect they'll be gone at 3. So I'm hesitating between Hughes/Kakko/Dach. I'm probably over thinking it and should grab Hughes instantly but I can't help but feel like he 'll be a Kuznetsov type of player which are not really good on Websim whereas Dach could projects more like a Getzlaf/Kopitar type which are pretty great in the format.

    Any take on this?

I'd pick those three prospects in the order you listed them.
