Once you factor in how many people are likely out and about who have extremely mild, or no symptoms, but still have COVID-19, the death rate could end up below 1%. But I guess we will see. Unless testing continues to where nearly the entire population can be checked, we won't have an accurate idea. Hard to say if that will actually ever happen.

it's true... all 'death rates' are calculated based on known positive tests. But % of population tested varies so greatly from country to country ... or even state to state.

Yup. Yup there are so many variables and different ways that you could calculate the death rate.

Just like there is going to be a tonne of different ways that companies are going to calculate their 30% increase. I would not want to be the person that has to look at all the different formats of internal financial statements that companies are going to be sending in to apply for the Wage Subsidy.

This is why Canada really needs to ensure that in the future, we can provide critical supplies ourselves (food, medication, medical supplies). In times of real crisis, you can't always rely on other countries to honour their contracts/commitments. Yes, it will cost money, but as our governments have shown time and again, it's just money, so who cares (debt just keeps on adding up with seemingly no repercussions).

Yes, Comish - I agree. But that’s exactly where the US is also. And many others. Cheap labor from Asia (and our collective corporate greed) is how we got here. Expect to pay more for most everything. And be happy when you do.

I think you're right. No idea what that's going to look like in a post-covid19 world, but things are going to need to change.

As Canadians we are going to have to become comfortable with the cost of living to increase if we want to keep some things manufactured inside our borders I would imagine. But it's a trade off that needs to happen I suppose.

It's so unfortunate because the partnership between these two countries has largely been a good one but they are just no longer reliable or trustworthy.

I don't believe the US/Canada relationship is a 50/50 thing. If the US and Canada were to get into a pissing match, Canada would lose. Big time.

On physical items, you could be right, but public perception is a funny thing. It wouldn't be hard for Trudeau to push Trumps face into a pile of dog-poo and smear it around based on his choices. All it takes is for the US to lose out on one major item they require from Canada and public outcry in the US would be outlandish.

Safe to say the rest of the World wouldn't let that happen, especially NATO and the Commonwealth, but your point is made.
