What's gonna happen with fantasy hockey now?

Unless you are in a pool that rolls into the actual NHL playoffs, not much. This year is technically over now for most fantasy leagues because they simply go until the NHL regular season concludes, which has now happened. How each league determines a "winner" is up to your league to decide.

Things I'm surprised with that haven't been brought up:

- Ottawa can technically get the #1, #2, and #4 overall picks. They own obviously SJS, but they also own NYI (top 3 protected). I did see someone say 13th overall pick online instead of 4th, so maybe there's a limit on how high someone can jump and I don't know, but I think NYI can technically get up to No1.

- Awards. Ovi and Pasta are splitting the Rocket Richard award for most goals with 48 each. Matthews was 2nd with 47g. Points leader was Draisaitl's. Now the debate on Calder, Vezina, MVP and what not can start up again.

- Records. Ovi loses some games for his all-time record seeking goal stretch. First time since Gretzky and Kurri did it in 1986-87 that teammates have gone 1/2 in scoring (Drais/McDavid). Pettersson in 2018-19 and Hughes in 2019-20 are technically the first b2b rookie scoring leaders to play for the same franchise since mid-1960's when Brit Selby and Ron Ellis won the rookie scoring race b2b with the TML. Matthews can't break the Rick Vaive goal record.

- Boston who had a 10pt lead in the standings can go from #1 seed to #4 seed. Sucks.

- Injuries will be key.

And the picks from 4th downwards will go to the bottom-7 teams. After that, the losers of the qualifying round will be seeded by regular season point-%.

So the way I see it, NYI can either jump into the Top-3 (in which case they keep it), or not jump at all.

Having said that, 3 picks in the Top 15 is still pretty sweet

So they have decided on two hub cities. I wonder what they are gonna do for the finals...

1) pick one of the two hub cities?
2) alternate between the two hub cities?
3) pick a third hub city to host the finals?

I think the most fair solution would be to drop one of the hub cities for the conference Finals. That way two teams are transferring to a new hub city and playing each other as they not get accustom to the new city. And then the advantage of the team that played in the hub city Hosting the final is not as significant as if it were just for the finals that a team had to transfer to a new hub city.

I think I answered my own question.... Would it make the most sense to have all the teams accumulate in two hub cities that are close together? I think the closest two options would be Pittsburgh and Columbus. Then have a normal Stanley Cup Final where you go back and forth?

I just don't think it makes sense to have one hub city in Edmonton and then the other in Dallas... cause the Stanley Cup Finals would be another whole predicament.

That never even occurred to me. They'll probably have to quarantine the players for another two weeks between the semis and the finals if one team has to transfer to a different city. I'm sure the NHL will explain their plan for that soon if they haven't already. You wonder if they might put all of the teams into one city earlier than that. Once it gets down to 8 teams they might be best to put everyone into one location.

A two week quarantine before resuming play at any stage of the playoffs is going to suck for teams that are playing good... I hope they can find a way to do it without a two week intermission.

Daly, NHLPA guy, said if the 14 day quarantine isn't lifted, Canadian cities won't be a host city. Which, I don't reallllyyy get if both host cities are Canadian, however I do understand TV ratings and ease of making things work if a USA city is a host city.

I think if a top seed wins there won't be an asterisk, but if a bottom seed wins there will be.

Speaking from the Leafs. Rielly fully healthy, Muzzin, Johnsson, Mikyehev, Matthews had a wrist thing. And no cap, so Leafs won't lose anyone to waivers making room for Mikheyev and Johnsson.

Max Domi would be a possible player who might not be able to play due to his diabetes. I'm sure there's others who are "at risk" and might not play due to doctor recommendations. Pretty sure Kakko has diabetes too. Another is Luke Kunin with Minny, and to a lesser extent Cory Conacher with TBL

Damn, why did a pandemic have to occur exactly this year? I really wanted to finish the season with this team.
