    On the topic of the start date though, it sounds like the NHLPA is going to have a three day window from when the CBA & RTP are ratified to be able to opt out of playing in the RTP phase 3 and on. With the expected agreement either today or soon after, we will likely have a full list of opt-outs by July 9-11 range, and then once that's finalized we can get going. This also means we will have three days of notice to set our exact start date, be it the 10th, the 13th, or whatever in between.
    Awesome!

    I have sent out a 'Last Call' email to those that expressed interest earlier but have not confirmed. So we will finalize number of participants tomorrow. And based on the number of participants we will come up with a number of rounds/players to be drafted.

    Then once the agreement is ratified we will pick our start date based on the end of the opt-out window above. So we will be starting sometime between July 10th and 13th.

    If we get close to the playoffs starting and are not quite done yet, I see sending lists to someone to make picks if someone is away is the best option. Near the end of the draft you have an idea who is taking what teams and if you are wanting players from Montreal... you could probably feel safe sending your list to someone who has picked 6 Penguins... cause they likely are not going to take your Montreal guy.

    Last call!

    We are at 13 with the deadline looming. Most of the 'Last Call' PMs have been responded to without interest. The ones that were not responded to, the members have not been active since April.

    So it looks like we will be at 13.

    13 * 14 rounds = 182 players (average of 7.6 players per team in the 24 team tournament)
    13 * 16 rounds = 208 players. (average of 8.7 players per team in the 24 team tournament)

    The total player universe is 24 teams * 20 players = 480 total players.

    Basically, you need more participants than half the number of NHL teams playing. So for this year, we need at least 13 or else everyone will silo off. You can then determine the number of picks to make by how many relevant players off each squad, say an average of 2 defensemen and 6 forwards per team, so 8 per NHL club. 8 x 24 = 192, and then divide by the number of participants and that gives you the number of picks/rounds you could do.

    With 13 participants, we could do 14-15 rounds and still have decent talent to chose from.
    metaldude seems to have known where we would land a while ago...

    maybe we need to introduce the evil twin rule as well.

    I am alright with doing 14 rounds... gives someone a chance to draft this years Fernando Pisani!

    I think 14 rounds sounds good.

    14 rounds works for me.

    So something like 9 F, 4 D and 1 G team?

    I think there's usually no position limits.

    In previous years we have done the playoff drafts without any positional requirements.

    The reasoning behind it is:

    - The main difference between regular season and playoffs is the amount of games being played. In Regular season (where positional requirements are usually used) You get a chance at 82 games from each of your players. Whereas the playoffs, the elimination of teams makes it impossible for equality based on games played.

    - So the strategy behind the playoff draft is picking players that are going to score the most points in the amount of games they play.

    - So is it fair to handcuff someone and force them to take the goalie if they feel a 4th liner from another team will score them more points?

    - Or is it fair for someone to be able to get the two top forwards from the teams they think will make it to the finals, but another person is limited to only drafting one of the goalies from the teams they think will make it to the finals?

    But if majority want positional requirements we can definitely add them.

    Scoring
    Skaters and Goalies

    Goal = 1 point,
    Assist = 1 point

    Goalies - Team Goalies
    Win = 1 points,
    shutout = 2 points

    Draft

    13 drafters for 14 rounds

    Positional Requirements

    None

    Yes correct. I should have included that in there as well.

    Most people want it to be simple, so trying to keep it as simple as possible!

    With no positions, I can draft as many goalies as I'd like?

    Also, we aren't doing the Evil Twin rule?
