Well, consider the alternative, which is what has been happening around the world since the outbreak. Epidemics pop up in various countries, governments impose restrictions, close schools and ban public gatherings, people panic and go on massive shopping sprees for toilet paper(!) and this repeated many times over. Which do you think will have a worse overall negative impact, the 2-week period of self-quarantine (even if not entirely practical) or months-long fights against epidemics?
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

And then you risk bringing this virus back to Canada potentially unawares. There have been many cases of people having very mild symptoms of even being asymptomatic while being infectious. I'm sure we can all manage without a vacation abroad for a few months.
Sick people go to work all the time, good luck getting them on board for a 2 week hiatus. Sad but true. Where I work, sick days are plentiful yet many don't take them for whatever reason. I say blayze should go on that trip and have a great time! Don't buy into this media hyped BS.

Ideally Employment insurance other other public support programs fueled by our taxes would cover everyone for 2 weeks off. However this is a worldwide "issue" and I'm not sure all countries have programs for this kind of option.

While I agree that a 2 week world wide quarantine would do the trick, it just isn't gonna happen. People are just too selfish and self important, besides who will police it and what would be the punishment for breaking the quarantine? So months long fight is the only way, let this thing run its course.

Im more concerned about the one time that we should really be worried about an outbreak or pandemic and people will say "meh, just another Corona hype scare, that one wasn't as big as they made it out to be, this one is probably the same." We are spending way toooo much time and energy on this, its shouldn't be this big of a deal. Completely ridiculous. I'm yet to hear one good reason why this is a bigger concern than the annual flu.

Frankly, we are overpopulated and could use a good worldwide culling anyway. The nice thing about this one is that it enforces Darwin's Theory and takes out the weak and otherwise has no filter. Much better in my mind than 3rd world starvation at the cost of first world comfort, or natural disasters that are focused on portions of the planet only, etc etc.

Would you guys go or cancel?

I'm booked for Disneyland at that same time, right in the thick of California madness. If Disney is open I'm totally going. Lines should be nice and short!

It's possible you are being facetious here, but I don't know. If not, I mean no disrespect, but you, sir, are quite misinformed.

Everyone should watch this, a lot of good information (posted March 10th).

TLDR: It's a lot worse than the annual flu.

How can I be misinformed when no one seems to agree on the stats. People are being brainwashed deeper into a life of fear. A sad but true situation. CNN garbage brainwash.

As long as I get to pick a handful to come with, sure Ill volunteer.

Im being serious here folks. There are too many people on this planet, we can try to fight these types of outbreaks but they are as natural as forest fires. We've been fighting those and see where its gotten us. I also realize this is unpopular opinion in these times where compassion and empathy are expected for every fly on the windshield so Ill go back to my corner.

    Wish you all well.

And thanks for the vid Prarie Dog, Ill try to find time to watch another opinion on it, but I am really tired of hearing about this thing.

Government & Gov't agencies implement restrictive measures to successfully contain outbreak of disease: Everyone "Meh, it was overblown. Experts/Gov't/Politicians/Media suck for scaremongering"

Government & Gov't agencies fail to successfully contain outbreak of disease: Everyone "Experts/Gov't/Politicians/Media suck, why should I listen next time? They don't know what they are doing"

    It's a lose-lose proposition.

As for "one good reason why this is a bigger concern than the annual flu" is the fatality rate that is multiple times higher that the typical bad flu strain in any given year. You and me as (presumably) healthy, non-immunocompromised adults will be fine as per ususal. Young children and the elderly as always are the most vulnerable.

And in case anyone is wondering I am pro-vaccination in general (and believe intelligent, open dialogue about the risks of over vaccination, etc are important), never get a flu shot, and hate the annual influenza scare campaign that IMO preys on fear and ignores the important distinctions between healthy and vulnerable persons.

So after 2 months of telling us to stop worrying, there's no risk in Canada, Trump-is-bad-look-at-us-we-are-so-good, look-at-these-idiots-panicking-fools-buying-extra-food, our trusted media and politicians are now telling Canadians that is is our responsibility to stop the virus, a virus which cannot be contained. The same virus that was no threat at all a couple weeks ago.

    But the risk is low.

Why exactly do we even have a government if they fail us so miserably when we need them most?

Oh, but they cry when they announce how bad it's gotten due to their incompetence? "Look at her, she's so human when telling us how people are starting to die because they have done NOTHING." But that's just racist, right? Oh no, sorry, it's sexist (or something, we'll label it soon).

Oh well, what can you do, right?

Trudeau announced today he is waiving the 1wk waiting period for EI claims so those in quarantine or affected can receive assistance and stay home - up to 15 weeks.

CV-19 is 5x's more contagious than the annual flu and is 2-3 times more fatal. You have the flu and cough in an elevator with six others. 1-2 will get it. with CV-19 - they all getting it.

I’m also in Hamilton. The doctor infected is a cancer specialist and is married to a surgeon. My mom goes in tomorrow morning for a knee operation. I hope she doesn’t hear about this, she’s nervous to begin with.

If you go to the Spectator’s twitter account there is a point form article about what facts we know so far about this particular case.

For those that havent seen this yet, here's an interesting video from someone who contracted the Coronavirus and how it affected him.

Carl Goldman shares what it's been like to be diagnosed with coronavirus while aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship and life in quarantine since.
