I hadn't seen a topic in here about the Coronavirus outbreak, so I thought I'd start one (apologies if someone has started one already and I just couldn't find it).

I'm interested to hear some thoughts about what what the implications could be if this were to happen in North America, and more specifically here, to fantasy teams. Have any of you gone as far as discussing a contingency plan in your league?

From what I've seen fans have a lot more concern about the rescheduled Blues/Ducks game

Bettman said the NHL head office has banned any travel from it's employees outside of NA for work. If they travel outside of NA for vacation, they are allowed to do so, but once they return to the country, they can't go into work for 2 weeks.

My wife's work just made a similar policy.

My company just sent out a notice to work from home for the foreseeable future. Most of us work 75% of the time anyway so it's not a huge deal.

I'm seriously disappointed in my work. They only posted a PDF on the lunchroom fridge about this. Nothing about vacation warnings, or anything like that. Quite disappointed in how we've dealt with it. Oh sorry, they've installed hand sanitizer dispenser in another part of the office half the office doesn't have access too. (eye roll)

Hopefully the number of cases in North American is contained. If it starts to spread I could see an escalating set of circumstances, starting with no fans at games to games being postponed.

- The NHLPA has cancelled its April meeting for agents.
- Italy has banned fans from all sporting events for the next month
- Stanford University is limiting attendance to one-third of capacity at all athletic events.
- The 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, set to open July 24th, are as of now going ahead, a cancellation of the Olympics would be a massive shock to the Sports World.

If the NHL were to suspend games our league would follow whatever our fantasy provider decided to do regarding fantasy playoffs.

My work has a policy in place that states if an employee goes to China, or any of the heavily infected countries in Europe, they will not be allowed to come back to work for a 3 week isolation period upon their return.

One of the reasons that coronavirus, while still scary, might not be all that the fear mongers are pushing, is that it actually started rather late during the flu season. Swine flu (H1N1) started in September back in 2011, and ran through the winter. Coronavirus really didn’t start until January, it’s now March, and by late April or May, this won’t be still as big..... hopefully, we will all get an extra flu shot for this one next fall (as there was for the swine flu). Me, I flew to California for a vacation last weekend, barely saw anyone even cough.

Disease is bad and do be careful, but panic is worse.

No mention in our league. Its likely if the NHL season were cut short we would just end the season and hand out the prizes. Our lock out shortened season was the same way but opposite

Apparently there's some estimated stat out there that says 30-70% of the worlds population will contract COVID-19.

Let's call it what it is. - A very serious strain of flu.

The majority of deaths to date are seniors and more compromised than say your average 30 year old.
It does make me wonder what my workplace's protocol will be if someone here were to test positive but not actually be 'sick' and has to be quarantined.
not everyone can afford to be forced to stay home without a pay cheque.
In Canada, EI is only going to pay you for one week of that 2wk quarantine, at 55% of your wage (1wk unpaid waiting period).

People will go to work sick because they can't afford to stay home. That's a reality.

Just got back from LA and apart from the odd “oriental ancestry” human, there was nobody decked out in masks and perhaps more than usual hand sanitizer locations in Disney and Universal. Although the news stations were pumping out the fact that its in California for sure.

I'm heading to the Dominican in a couple weeks. I'm not overly concerned right now but I'm still keeping an eye on things. Common sense goes a long way. I'll take lysol wipes with me and "sanitize" my airplane seat and area in the way down and back but other than that it will be regular day to day activities for me.
