I feel like Brannstrom has the higher offensive ceiling in a worse situation, but Dobson has better banger potential in a better situation

I think you have it right. Brannstrom has the higher upside with a lesser likelihood that he hits it. Dobson has the lesser upside but is more likely to get there. Brannstrom is a bit of a boom or bust scenario with the associated risk. Dobson, I think, is the safer bet.

I'm pretty stacked on D for the future (Dumba, Pulock, Heiskanen, Dobson, Sandin, Alexeyev among others), so I moved Brannstrom for Batherson and Burakovsky, which is a return I'm pretty happy with for a boom or bust guy. He sure is putting up points in the A, though

I think that was a great deal for you big time. That said, I wouldn't go quite so far as to say you are "stacked" on D. A lot of good young D men, but no one who might be considered elite and there will be a wait time before we know whether these prospects pan out or not. Just sayin'. A trade to obtain a bona fide tier 1 D man might be something worth considering.
