I'd say that's dumb by NYR, but he definitely helps their team. Only think it's dumb because why not go "wink wink, here's a deal, but notice the date says July 1st?"

at least it's 6.5m and not Skinner $$... As he ages this cap hit % will only reduce. It's not a deal that will cripple the team moving forward.

Well you'd think by now NHL GMs would learn there lesson but they don't. To be honest, he got less $$ than I thought he would. The fact the Rangers didn't get the 8th year out of him was almost as surprising. Call that part a win I guess.

The thinking must be Panarin and Kreider are the same age, ending roughly around the same time (Kreider 1 more yr). So the signing is for their window.
