I do not think it will happen, but how awesome would a line of Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Kovalchuk be?
I honestly see Kovalchuk slotting in on the 3rd line and PP2.
For a third-round pick. Montreal is also retaining salary, so according to CapFriendly, the move will cost the Cap $77,000.

Sounds like Montreal will try aim to re-sign him in the summer.
There's a strong possibility he signs in Montreal this summer. Seems like they parted ways on very good terms and Kovalchuk probably "approved" of going to Washingoton. Of course things can change. If he has a good stretch run and playoff there's going to be more teams interested in him this summer.

They must have done it to give him a playoff chance otherwise I much preferred him around the team, teaching them to be pros. I hope he returns in the summer though it may have also been a contract demand thing.. I would only continue to roll the dice on league min deals plus bonus; nothing else.

To be fair, after a strong start, he's' been meh this month. 3 points in his last 10 games. I think the Habs did pretty well here, all things considered. They took a guy off the scrap heap that few teams wanted and turned that into a 3rd round pick.
The only reason I would consider it a meh return is due to Montreal retaining salary on his piddly contract.

Capitals lines at morning skate ahead of game vs Jets:
Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Wilson
Vrana-Backstrom-Oshie
Hagelin-Eller-Kovalchuk
Panik-Dowd-Hathaway
Dillon-Carlson
Orlov-Jensen
Kempny-Gudas*Kovalchuk third line right wing, Panik bumped to the fourth line, Leipsic out
According to Daily Face Off The 2nd PP is:
Wilson - Kuznetsov - Kovalchuk
Ovy (also on PP1) - Orlov

I'm not sure 3rd line and 2nd PP is going to mean great things for Kovalchuk's fantasy numbers

NO IR
Caps didn't acquire him to maximize his stats. He's there to help their depth scoring. When he was in Montreal there was no reason not to feature him heavily.
