Florida will end up replacing Malgin with another defenseman.

I'm just stunned by this trade. These are the last two teams I thought would be doing business together. I guess Keefe's speech to the bottom 6, last night at PIT, that apparently fell on deaf ears, led to this move.

I don't get the reasoning behind this from Florida's perspective. Marchment is significantly worse than Hawryluk who they just gave up for nothing. Malgin was probably Florida's 9th best forward. This is a great deal for Toronto.

Malgin played with Matthews a few years ago, according to Chris Johnston.

This doesn't really make the team as a whole a lot better, but this is likely because of Johnsson's injury. The team believes they need more skill on the 3rd line to help ease the pressure off of the top 6. Malgin might not be an overall massive improvement from Marchment, but he's younger, more NHL experience, same contracts, plays a more skilled game, and it's not like Marchment was really using his size anyways.

Winner of this deal? Twitter and us. Pretty equal deal for both sides.

It is true, they played in Switzerland together.

is this asking who can come up to be in the offensive 3rd line role? I think the Leafs still are pushiing him to be better defensively. Before he gets called up. From what I've read/seen he's a one trick pony in an amazing set-up guy.

Well the way Leafs fans talk, Bracco is NHL ready and is skilled. They sure seem quick to offer him up in trade talks as a genuine piece as something other teams would value so I dont see why he wouldn't fit here. You dont think he's skilled enough to come up and play in a bottom six role?

Trading pieces does not necessarily mean you giving up on them....you need to give something to get something and if Bracco can bring D that they need there is nothing wrong with that....problem is im not sure there is one D that will do the trick either...Malgin move could mean that Dubas finally realizes that team defense is not good enough not just D men.

Honestly, the team itself needs a spark so maybe. But is he ready for 82games? I dunno. It's not like the defense can mask any forward mistakes right now.

Back when Babcock was still the coach, I was for the thought of bringing Bracco up and just giving him the reigns of the PP to give the PP1 a kick in the butt. Give him L3/L4 minutes, but he's on the PP1 for 1.30 of the 2min. Right now, with the injuries they have (Rielly, AJ, Mik, Ceci) I don't know if they can do that gamble. But That might be the exact reason why they should do it.

He's got value, but personally I think it's gotta be in the right situation right now. He's a bit hard to project for the NHL without seeing him in an NHL game,
