Default 2020 Dobber MLB Wins Pool

    Draft thread: https://forums.dobbersports.com/show...l-Draft-Thread

Time to get this started again. Here's a link to last year's thread: 2019 Thread

    The rules are simple:
    - You pick teams in turn until all teams are chosen.
    - The scoring system is simply the total number of regular season wins for your chosen teams.
    - The player with the most combined regular season wins between your teams wins the pool.

I like having 10 teams as it gives each player 3 teams each. Like previous years, we'll conduct the draft snake style for the first two rounds and the last round will be the same as the second. For example:
    - The player with the first pick would have 1, 20 and 30.
    - The second pick would have 2, 19 and 29. And so on.
    - The last pick would have 10,11 and 21.

Also, it had been agreed previously that I could randomise the draft order. Will continue to do this unless there are objections. It's simply an excel randomise function but if the majority prefer a more 'official' order randomiser, please let me know.

If there are more than 10 interested in playing, then we can try to have a second group. Those who played last year will get first crack at returning. I've sent a private message to all returnees and refreshed the 2019 thread.

There's still time, but any thoughts on what we can do if Zorro doesn't come back (he's been off the site for over a month now) and we can't find extra? We're currently on 8 players. Four rounds but the bottom two get the two least favourite teams?

Something like that would likely make the most sense.

One way I have seen it done is very similar to your suggestion. But instead of making the two least favourite teams available twice (for the last four teams)... you use Vegas odds and pick two of the middle range teams... like 15th and 16th.

Everyone has a similar idea who the bottom two teams are gonna be... so it doesn't really give teams at the end any option. And these will be the last for teams taken in the draft for certain.

By inserting two of the middle range teams there will be some choice as to when these additional teams get picked.

    Lets take hockey as example.

I kept track of the different divisions of the NHL one.

The bottom teams this year (Los Angeles, Detroit and Ottawa) We all picked either 29, 30 or not picked at all, across all groups that picked.

Where as the teams where there average selection was around the middle average were:

    Panthers
    - Average pick was 13.4 with a high of 5 and a low of 18
Jets - Average pick was 15.6 with a high of 13 and low of 20
Islanders - Average pick of 16.4 with a high of 14 and a low of 21

So there is a bit more chance for fluctuation of the mid-tier teams and if you inserted two of the Panthers and two of the Jets... you might not see them be picked back to back... you might see something like this:

    13 Jets
    14. Hurricanes
    15. Panthers
    16. Devils
    17. Islanders
    18. Panthers
    19. Jets

Don't get me wrong... there is still a chance it ends up like this:

    13. Hurricanes
    14. Panthers
    15. Panthers
    16. Islanders
    17. Jets
    18. Jets
    19. Devils

But it is almost a guarantee if you make the Red Wings and Kings available twice each the draft will most likely end like this:

    29. Red Wings
    30. Red Wings
    31. Kings
    32. Kings

If you were to do this you might have to put a restriction on the teams saying that the same person couldn't pick both Panthers teams (might mess with things by allowing the double-down).

Is there anyone not in this pool but in the Dobber Baseball league who might want to join?

I'd like to get 10 to avoid having to come up with an alternative option with 8 teams. About that, happy to consider all options if they are easy to manage and the parameters are agreed by everyone.
