Sabres place Zach Bogosian on waivers

The Buffalo Sabres placed defenceman Zach Bogosian on waivers Friday. Bogosian has one goal and five points while appearing in just 19 games with the Sabres this season. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported in December that Bogosian had requested a trade from the franchise.

The 29-year-old was drafted third overall in 2008 by the Atlanta Thrashers. The right shot defenceman spent seven years with the Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets before joining the Sabres.

Bogosian is playing out the final season of a seven-year contract with the Jets in 2013 and carries $5.1 million cap hit.

I'd say he's a safe clear a demote. He's overpaid and underperforming.

I'm only thinking he's claimed with the injuries that have kinda pilled up over the last few weeks. However, I guess if he fails the teams stuck with his cap hit. And he's a salary of 6mill (for the yr), so his salary is higher than his cap hit (5.14).

I'll be checking twitter tmo at 12:05pm though.

Kinda chewing the info, I wouldn't be shocked if he clears, wouldn't be shocked if he's claimed. A team like the Jets who have a bunch of guys on the IR who can shift to LTIR to open up more space might be the team to jump on him. However they were the team to let him go to Buffalo. They'd at least know the most about him in the locker room.

If a team acquires him it'll be via trade with salary retention.

Hearing BUF D Zach Bogosian notified that if he does not report to AHL Rochester today, his contract could be terminated. We will see how it plays out.
