There seems to be a few quality coaches out there collecting a paycheque, enjoying life on the unemployment line.

Curious timing on his firing. Not sure MN will make it to the post season but they're on a 6-3-1 run in their last 10 games. What is MN trying to accomplish here?

Ya, not quite sure what Guerin is up to. He says one thing and does another. He says they aren't throwing in the towel, but trades away one of his better scorers who's locked up long term on a good contract for Galchenyuk (who I have a hard time seeing as an upgrade to your current roster to help with your playoff push), a prospect and a 1st. Then, you're team looks like they are playing well and they are firing the coach.

I get it, Guerin took over a bit of a weird team with a lot of questionable contracts and older veterans, but this move doesn't make much sense. Not as strange as Vegas firing Gallant, but still strange.

I could be wrong but I see this as a philosophical issue. I mean, they're playing well lately so recent play isn't the issue. They just traded Zucker away and could be in line to do more of that. Boudreau probaably believes in his current group more than most people.

Also, I doubt anything Guerin says changes my mind as I don't believe in public statements. Too much BS being put out there to serve various agendas. Actions speak louder than words. They just traded Zucker for futures (Galchenyuk only there for cap reasons) and the coach is let go not long after.

You kind of have to believe in either Boudreau or Guerin. They are very different people, with very different philosophies. Surprised it’s lasted this long. In any case, the general manager always wins these battles. Boudreau, unlike Gallant, unlike Laviolette, but kind of similar to Mike Babcock - will need to prove he can adapt to what the game has become over the last 5+ years. I don’t see him behind a bench again. Thoughts??

12-team, H2H. Keep 12, but drop 2 of top four skaters, and also 2 of next six, then five more (from end-of-year rankings). One GK max.

He'll have another job soon. He's widely regarded as a good coach. He's above the recycle bin level.

Seems pretty clear Guerin thinks this is a lost season and he is building for the future. Its possible they were going to let Boudreau ride out the season and not renew him but then Guerin started worrying that if he had too strong a finish there would be pressure to bring him back. Guerin clearly wants to install his own guy this offseason, as most GMs ultimately end up doing.

The problem in Minnesota has been below-replacement level GM's for a while. It certainly looks like Guerin is going to fit right in with that trend.

Colossal mistake. I don’t see any upside in this move at all. Zucker was unhappy going back to last year so that’s not surprising but obviously Boudreau disagreed with moving him. Who is better to lead this team now?.... Kaprizov can’t like this.. it opens up a spot for him but Zucker’s contract was fine; it’s other parts that needed to move.

Ouch Guerin. Don’t like this one.

Get him in Toronto to save the Leafs defence. He loves Toronto enough to play second fiddle behind Keefe right? Haha
