Default So, what about Evan Bouchard?

It feels like he was as hyped as Makar or Hughes a year ago.

Now no one talks about him and some even says that Ethan Bear as a better set of offensive tools than Bouch.

The guy will make the NHL, but whats the potential here?

Still has 1st pair potential but I'd guess he ends up more of a 2nd-pairing/#1PP d-man. He's progressing well in the AHL and was a recent AHL all-star. I've read that he still has many of his defensive warts but he has improved on the defensive side. He's also picked up his game over the last month

Stats from before and after New Years:
    Before 30gp. 4-12-16 -12 79sog.
    After 17gp. 3-12-15 +/-0 40sog.

He's also 2nd in rookie scoring for D, only behind Brogan Rafferty, who is nearly 4-1/2 years older than him. His .66PPG also has him tied with Sandin and Ryan Ellis at about 13th for Top PPG for U21 D at the AHL level since 2000 (min 20 games)

    1. Ryan Murphy - .96
    2. John Carlson - .81
    3. Derrick Pouliot - .77
    4. Mike Green - .77
    5. Shea Theodore - .76
    6. Cody Ceci - .70
    7. Juuso Valimaki - .70
    8. Justin Faulk - .70
    9. P.K. Subban - .69
    10. Erik Brannstrom - .68
    11. M-A Gragnani - .67
    12. Brayden McNabb - .67
    13. Evan Bouchard - .66
    14. Rasmus Sandin - .66
    15. Ryan Ellis - .66
    16. Tyson Barrie - .65
    17. Yannick Weber - .65
    18. Tim Erixon - .64
    19. Adam Clendening - .63
    20. Jake Bean - .63
    21. Vince Dunn - .62
    22. Tony DeAngelo - .62

Also, lost in the hub-bub about Frk's 109mph slap shot at the AHL all-star game, Bouchard came second with a Bouch-bomb at 103, which would've won the NHL competition.

    Good one indeed.

*** Side note: He's probably not as good as Paul Coffey. https://twitter.com/WaltRuff/status/1225254030324092929 …

Ethan Bear had about half the points in his rookie AHL season (up to this point) as Bouchard does right now. He's second in rookie scoring for a D, and playing like 25 minutes a night. So far, so good, for Bouchard. If you asked me to choose a player to keep long term I would easily take Bouchard over Bear. There's no guarantees with players, but things are still trending very well for him currently. If you dig into his numbers he compares very well to a lot of other high end NHL defensemen.

Just be patient. If you don't own him... this type of attitude/concern towards him will spread - it opens a buy low type window. Think Dylan Strome 18mths ago.
    Time to start kicking tires.

Ryan Pulock took forever to make the NHL... now he's emerging into a top 20 MC Dman.

If you do own him - stock him away as a longer term prospect and resist any/all urges to sell.

Bouchard and Bear are different types of Dmen. Bear is tracking to be another Adam Larsson; a solid shutdown type Dman. Bouchard is an offensive Dman. I dont compare them at all.

Everyone knew when Holland came in that he would slow down the rush to promote players to the NHL before they were over-ripen. Bouchard is no different. They are taking their time with him and anyone who owns him in a keeper needs to show patience.

Called up today. Consensus seems to be they don’t let him get to 9 games.

I am just happy to see MA Gragnani's name again. Throwback.
