Default Ryan O’Reilly trade value for a playoff run ?

    Hey Guys

Couple weeks till our trade deadline , and trying to firm up my Squad for a playoff run.

O’Reilly is available on offer, 1st rnd next year is the wanted pick for his 5th ?

    Im sitting 4th overall , only 2 wins away from 1st .
I lead the league in overall player points though.

More concerned about a D Man upgrade , but not much available at all ... only burns ( but fading pace this year ) .

Is it worth it to Trade a first for O’Reilly , or stick with current squad ?
would he be worth a keeper replacement on my Squad , or just a “ Rental “ ?

    Thanks in Advance !!

The thing for me is opportunity cost. 12 teams, keep 6, a 1st rounder for a 5th isn't a massive downgrade for you. You could easily get as good a player in the 120's as you would in the 80's. But, 1st rounders have a ton of cache in trade talks, no matter the setup and it's a piece you can only trade once. So is O'Reilly going to be the best guy you can get between now and the deadline? Is he even a top-6 F for you? (Yes, but not as substantially as his name value would indicate.)

I'd ask if you can keep that one on the burner and revisit closer to the deadline.

Also, take some time to look at when your H2H playoffs are scheduled, and look for a guy with a ton of games during your playoff run. That way you'll maximize the possible impact of your big trade acquisition. You'll also want to make sure that guy is a driver for that team so that you protect yourself from deadline acquisitions who may bump your acquisition to a lesser role.

    Thanks For Advice !

so with that rational , in our playoff period Islanders play 12 games in 3 weeks ..... And Barzal is up on offer for picks ... how High would you offer ?

Here's where trying to "game the schedule" can get too cute. O'Reilly's the better option because of PPP, how many games would he give you vs. Barzal? Are a couple extra games worth of Barzal ultimately worth more than simply having the better player?

I'm not against going after Barzal, but again, if you're putting that 1st in play (which could reasonably be asked for), I might aim higher. You still have some time 'til the trade deadline to wait for the best piece. Inquire, and see if it's an option you can keep in your back pocket.

I agree to wait, unless you can get Barzal for say a 3rd going out for a 5th back.

I'd kick the tires on seeing how cheap Burns might come, or another D, since that's your need.
