Default Big Trade! Reasure me I did well?-REP

I rarely make trades, but when I do theyre just small tweaks. Anyway 1 manager (current 3yr league champ) has been having a firesale over the last week deciding to start rebuilding early. Most of his core was creeping towards 30s. I was just sitting back waiting to see what happened...as my core is much older I was actually planing on selling off my core for future assets.

Anyway I was approached by the other manager with an offer. The pieces he offered would help me contend better in the present time. But I was hesitant about doing it because its a points only league. I'm currently sitting 5th of 9 about 40pts behind 1st place. So I have quite a few to leapfrog with only 30 games left. 2 or 3 of the teams ahead of me improved their teams recently but nothing too major. And as I mentioned this trade Involves me giving up futures while having to hold on to my oldish core (Stamkos, Marchand, Getzlaf, Wheeler, Perron, Kessel, Weber, Suter).

Anyway after a bit of back and forth we agreed on a deal:

His: Kuznetzov, OReilly, Seguin, Hedman, 2021 2nd/3rd waiver picks

    My:Mittlestadt, 2020 2nd entry pick, 2020 1st waiver pick, 2022 1st entry pick

Do you think I did well? Do u think I should be in the mix for top 3 given my current core?

As I said its a points only, we start 10f 3d 1g per week.

My current NHL roster now looks like this:

FORWARDS: Marchand, Stamkos, Kuznetzov, Oreilly, Perron, Seguin, Wheeler, Getzlaf, Kessel, Dvorak, E.lindholm, M.Granlund, A.Lee, JVR, Debrincat, PLDubois, JT Miller, Meier, Labanc, Olofsson, Tuch

DEFENCE: Chabot, Hedman, Weber, Suter, Gustafsson, Schultz, Leddy, Provorov, McAvoy, Jokiharju

GOALIES: Binnington, Bobrovsky, Hellebuyck, Bishop, Talbot

I think you did well as you didn't give up that much. More quantity than quality.

Hedman also becomes a keeper for you in my opinion.

Whether or not you catch first, I think this was worth the gamble as you didn't sacrifice your future that I can see.

Thanks for the reply. It'd be great to finish in the top 3 but even if I dont I just hope my older guys dont drop off a cliff production wise next year so I have a chance from the start. Hate parting with Mittlestadt as Im still quite high on him but his progression over the last season and a half has made me have doubts. Some of my other promising prospects are Denisenko, Batherson, Zegras, Turcotte, Krebs, N.Robertson, Farabee, N.Suzuki... so I felt I could spare losing Mittlestadt. As for Hedman becoming a keeper, this is a full keeper Dynasty league.

    The way I see it:

Kuzy >>> Mittelstadt (I was also very high on him, but maybe the next Cody Hodgson)
    ROR >>> 2020 2nd pick
Seguin >>>>>> 2020 1st waiver pick (I assume guys like Seguin don't hit the waiver wire)
    Hedman >>>> 2022 1st pick
Plus you get 2021 2nd/3rd waiver picks for free

As you can see, you won every aspect in this trade by a far margin IMO. I think you fleeced the other GM. Well done.

Nope. Was just making sure I wasn't missing anything and that I won't regret trading Mittlestadt. Thanks for the input tho.

In Dobber's rankings for the top 300 players for points only leagues, Mittlestadt is ranked 285th.

Kuznetsov is 23rd. ROR is 41st. Seguin is 38th. And Hedman is 47th.

If Mittelstadt turns into Connor McDavid, you still win this trade. And newsflash, Mittlestadt is ranked 285th for a reason. He's barely rosterable in points only.

I also agree with this. The most amazing thing is that the guy making the offer was the 3x defending champ, so there's no way anyone can say he doesn't know what he's doing in general.

I bet you could recoup some of those assets after the season by dealing one of those acquired guys that you won't keep.

This is what I was thinking, how does a 3 time league champion make a dumb ass trade like that??? Strange to say the least.

Boredom is one reason. I know someone who literally tore down a dynastic team (4 of 5 titles) in a dynasty football league because he was bored. There were a couple newer to the league managers, which meant the competition level had gone up for him, and he didn't know it at that point. He chose poorly regarding to whom he dealt some players - he needed to pick the chumps he knew not the newbies he didn't know.
