Trade for Matthews

League details in signature. I started a rebuild last year, and am competitive this year (middle of the standings), but my team is not quite ready to win it all yet. I am hoping to be in a position to win next year (and future years).

The following trade has been proposed to me, which I am considering.

Rantanen + Seguin + Bobrovsky + 3rd

for

Matthews + Palmieri + Holtby + 2nd

I wasn't looking to trade Rantanen, but Matthews caught my attention. Palmieri is a solid peripherals guy, who I would likely flip for picks prior to the trade deadline. Holtby is having a tough year, but given that I have Samsonov, it means I would get all of Washington's starts.

no I like your depth mix as is, hold your assets IMO. You should be targeting a top end defender if making a run this year.

You've got a ton of depth at C. I like Matthews a lot, but another high end C is not what your team needs. I'd be looking at moving Seguin+ for a high end dman if I was you.

not sure i would do that either.
but i offered Malkin and price for Mathews to a team that is fighting for first place and it was denied. i do believe matthews owners really value him a ton. overpayments would be needed imo. i like your center's as mentioned in the above posts so i really would not do that trade.

Hmm, what if the 2nd round pick comes with the caveat that Mike Milbury makes it for the team acquiring it, but you get to make the pick yourself in the 3rd round if you have it. Does that work?

I like the deal.. take it.

Here's why:

1) you get the best player in the deal.

2) move Seguin to cover the RW slot left by Rantanen

3) your RW depth more than covers the loss by Rantanen.

Agree with other poster, your D depth needs help. Now you've got a C expendable, trade either Barzal or Larkin for D.

Your team has increased its chances of winning.. you are way better off.

He's dealing Rantanen, Seguin, and Bobrovsky, so he can't use Seguin to cover any spots on his team after the deal.

I agree with this. Your d corps is the weakest group you have. Deal from you abundance of centers to upgrade your d.

For what it's worth, I don't like the trade offer you posted.

Excellent first post by the way. All the important info is there, allowing for a lot of replies and opinions. Well done.

Personally, I dont like the trade for you. Many would argue the best player in the deal is Rantanen primarily because of the depth of centers, and seeing as you only start 2 at each position (again, thanks for that info) Rantanen is more important to you than Matthews.

I prefer Rantanen to Matthews in your setup. I prefer Seguin with his multi-positioning in your setup. Bobrovsky is having a hard time this year, but Holtby is turning into a sharetime goalie (although having the handcuff would be nice) so I look at the goalies as a wash. Bobrovsky will find his way.

The only part of this trade I see you coming out on top of is the pick upgrade but in a 10 team league, I dont see the upgrade as valuable as if you were getting a 1st for a 3rd.

I'd keep what you have here, or try and rework the deal. I would keep Rantanen out of it and try and figure something else out.

I don't like it. Matthews is really the only upgrade.
