Default ROOS LETS LOOSE POLL: Potential 50 goal scorers

While digging through stats recently, I stumbled across the fact that there were only five 50+ goal scorers last decade - Alex Ovechkin, Corey Perry, Evgeni Malkin, Steven Stamkos, and Leon Draisaitl. If you're like me, you'd have thought there were more. But it gave me the idea to run a poll where I ask you to vote on which of 19 forwards you think have the best chance to score 50+ goals in at least one season. Why 19? The poll is limited to 20 choices, and I wanted to add a "none of the above" option in case you think not a single one of the 19 will do so.

I didn't include those five as choices, as they've already accomplished the feat. Similarly, Sidney Crosby (edit: and Ilya Kovalchuk - thanks to stevegamer for pointing out I'd omitted him), who both did so prior to the 2010-11 season, are likewise not choices, nor are David Pastrnak, Auston Matthews, and Nathan MacKinnon, as those three are at or above a 50 goal pace for this season.

You can vote for as many of the 19 choices - listed in alphabetical order - as you want, provided you think each one will in fact pot 50+ goals in a season before their career is done. Remember, it can be any season at any point in their career, not just this season. Or, as noted, you should vote for "none of the above" if you think not a single one of the 19 will do so. And after you vote, be sure to post in the thread to say who you voted for and why, as although these polls are meant to be fun first and foremost, there's also the hope of gaining fantasy insight, which is where your comments enter the equation.

    Here's who I voted for:

Aho - super talented and now looks to be focusing more on goal scoring
DeBrincat - lots of SOG and already had 41 last season as just a sophomore
Guentzel - Great chemistry with Crosby and Malkin, plus now is a PP1 staple, so 50 should be a cakewalk
McDavid - one of these seasons he'll say "you know what, I should probably get 50 goals this year" then voila, it'll happen
Panarin - Every time I think I've seen the best from him he shows me more, including this season in the form of a focus on being a sniper
Petterson - Doesn't shoot a ton, at least not yet, but it doesn't matter because he's the type who'll shoot at 15%+ over his career
Svechnikov - As good as MacKinnon is, this guy could be even better

I had the same seven. Others could, but these are the ones I'm most confident about.

Agreed, but it takes a lot to hit 50, and I think they will top out in the 40-45 range.

Poor Tarasenko. Used to be considered one of the top goal scorers in the game. I understand the 0% vote (myself included) but the guy whips mad pucks on net. I wonder if a fully healthy Tank could do it on a different team. A lot of things would have to align but #youneverknow

I was curious about who has how many seasons, and I ran a report on hockey-reference. There are 16 seasons by active NHL players, and Ovechkin has 8 of them. Stamkos & Kovalchuk (with the Thrashers!) have 2 each, and the rest have just one.

    I went with 4 young guys who've scored 40+:

    DeBrincat
    Guentzel
    Laine
    McDavid

And these two who haven't but seem to be reasonable guesses:
    Pettersson
    Svechnikov

I'm sure somebody else will do this as well, likely from the list, kind of like Perry's 50 goal season from nowhere.

    I went with

    Eichel
    Laine
    McDavid
    Panarin
    Rantanen
    Kucherov
    Pettersson.

I am surprised to see Panarin getting little love. The guy is on the ice ALL THE TIME and shoots from everywhere. He's already up to 26 goals so far and might hit 50 this year. He's about to destroy his career high of 31 goals pretty soon.
